Body Pump Class vs. Elliptical = Weight Loss

Looking to lose weight and always skeptical if straight cardio on the elliptical is better than my body pump class? Has anyone had better results using one or the other? I take 2 body pump classes, 1 core workout class, and 1 body attack cardio class a week. Just wonder if the elliptical would help with weight loss more than body pump class? Any experience with these? Thanks MFP!

I think a nice balance between cardio and weights is what has helped me along the way (in the last year, I'm down about 65lbs).
I usually hit up a BP class 2-3x a week and do a warm up on the elliptical or arc trainer prior to class (usually 30-45 minutes).
I think BP has really helped tone and almost reshape my body, which I've really had fun watching. Cardio brings a really nice calorie burn but it doesn't do a whole lot in the toning/strength department.0 -
I agree, a mixture is good.
Body pump will improve your muscles - that might not show on teh scales, but it will in your clothes size.0 -
A calorie deficit helps with weight loss. Exercise is for fitness. Both resistance training and cardio are good for you, but the real key to weight loss is your diet. You can exercise all day long but if you're not staying in a calorie deficit, it doesn't matter what you do in the gym.0

I don't really get many classes I'm interested in at current gym, so have just done straight cardio. Coupled with calorie deficit, I've lost 25lbs. I use the elliptical, along with the rower and stepper. I prefer the rower over elliptical - it's great for a fast calorie burn and I find it really toning for my arms and abs.
But Body Pump is hell fun - mix it in there so you don't get bored.0 -
But as far as the classes go, you will get a good calorie burn with the spin/rpm class.0

You should think about doing both, not either/or. I do strength training and run for cardio.0
