CARDIO VS WEIGHT LIFTING

As we all know, there have been many threads out their about this. So I will keep it short and brief and hope everyone undersatands what I'm getting at. Of course, I read alot of threads that say cut cardio out completely and just lift. I get it, but what about the individuals that like running 5k's, 10k's etc such as myself. I do feel like i need to continue to run in order to be be successful in my running goals that I have set. Don't get me wrong, I have seen amazing results from people just lifting but I do think getting that cardio in is essential also. As stated before I love running 5k's but when i read that it could hurt me having gains in lifting or not help because I may in a calorie deficit could hurt is discouraging at times.
Just reaching out to my mfp family on thoughts. Tried to be brief on the question I was asking.
Looking forward to responses.

i lift 3 days a week and train for 5ks on 2 of the off days.
since i'm eating at a deficit if i want to train for 10ks i think i'd either need to eat a little more or change lifting to 2 days a week.

oh and my lifting consists of compount lifts that i'm pregressively adding weight each session

It's not vs anything because IT'S NOT A PRIZE FIGHT.

Figure out your goals and train for them. Runners gotta run like fish gotta swim

You have to decide what is most important to you and make that be a priority.

If you're a runner, use lifting to compliment and assist your running.

If you are training for a run then running is essential.

If you are want to lose weight, gain muscle, get stronger...then it is not. It is not one VS the other.

Notice I did not say people should not do it, I say it was not "essential".

When asked why they think it IS essential they will say it is for heart and lung health. That would mean they believe strength training does not improve heart and lung health. That is not correct.

I didn't see a question. If you run 10k's, you probably won't be a successful pro bodybuilder. For most other people, it can work, if you eat enough. Calorie deficits are easy to fix.

Different people have different goals. By all means, keep running... It does not have to be an either/or proposition. We need three types of movement to be a well rounded fit person... Cardio for Cardiovascular health. Lifting for strength development, and some type of flexibility exercise. What good is being strong if you lack the endurance (cardio) to use it. What good is having endurance without the strength to use it properly... And if we cannot be flexible, what use is any of it...
