Help me be ready for surgery!
I'm having surgery in less than 2 weeks. Expect to be not very mobile for a few days. I find I'm horrible with my eating when I am just laying around (recovery - bored whatever!).
Please suggest some low carb foods I can prepare in advance so I'm ready for meals and snacks post op. I'm facing 2 surgeries (minor - but still - surgery!) in the next couple months. I want be to sure I stay on track.
Thanks all for the help!

~cheese (YUM) - slice it all up and portion out 1 or 2 oz in baggies
~get and slice up all veggies so you can just grab.
~have hard boiled eggs ready to grab and eat
decadent high fat, low carb desert - chocolate fat bombs
* 2 Oz. Coconut Oil
* 1 Oz. Cream Cheese
* ½ Oz. Torani Sugar Free Vanilla Syrup (totally forgot to put this in)
* 1 teaspoon Cocoa Powder
* 2 Oz Dark Chocolate (I Used 100%, hence the need for the 3rd truvia)
* 8 Drops EZ-Sweetz (i used 3 packets of truvia)
* 2 Oz. Almond Butter
Instructions
1. Combine all the items except the almond butter and microwave for 30 seconds
2. Stir the ingredients, if the chocolate is not fully melted, microwave again and continue stirring
3. Pour a base layer into the mold you're using
4. Then using a spoon and place a dollop of Almond Butter in the center
5. Fill the rest of the mold to the top
6. Freeze until the chocolate hardens, when hard push them out of the mold
7. Store in the fridge
Notes
If you want to make it faster / easier, you can mix the almond butter into the batter. Also, you can use a mini whoopie pie pan instead of a candy mold.(I just mixed the almond butter right in)

There's so many! Celery with peanut butter (or maybe chicken/tuna salad), hard-boiled or deviled eggs, dill pickles, cheese wedges, fruit/cottage cheese, nuts/seeds (keep raw ones in the freezer if you think you'll overeat them), low-carb trail mix, beef/turkey jerky (low-sugar), sugar-free jello, sugar-free yogurt (maybe with a few berries), pepperoni "chips" (zap slices in the microwave), smoked salmon/cream cheese on cucumber slices, lettuce rolls (roll lunch meat, egg salad, tuna or other filling and veggies in lettuce leaves), lunch meat rolls (roll cheese or veggies in lunch meat), raw veggies with low-carb dip, pork rinds, low-carb snack bars...
There are lots of low-carb snack recipes out there! Best of luck - will say a prayer for you!0 -
In addition to coming up with an eating plan, also work on addressing the underlying issue of boredom (i get you, it's a big trigger for me too). Make sure you're surrounded with mutliple options for things to keep you occupied or you could still end up overeating. Think of a bunch of movies or shows you'd like to watch/rewatch and set up your streaming queue or rent/borrow the DVDs. Download some addictive games (Candy Crush, HayDay, Farm Heroes, etc) or if you want to go low tech, pick up a bunch of crossword puzzle or word search books. And speaking of books, pick up a few real page turners from the library.
And find out from your doc how early you can start being active. Even if you can only walk for say 10 minutes at a time, that'll be a big distraction too. Set a timer, do your walk when it goes off, (do not go to the kitchen unless it's meal time) then go back to your movie/book/game and reset the timer. Rinse, repeat
Good luck and hope both surgeries go well!0 -
Make some creamy veggie soups like butternut squash soup. They're good for you and comforting. Or stock up on those boxes of veggie soups.
Here's a link to a basic way to throw together super creamy but not too calorie-filled soups -- it's on my hobby recipe blog:

Oh, and just freeze the soups in serving-size containers. A quick trip through the microwave and you're all set.0 -
My favorite right now is making hamburger patties with 93/7 beef. Then buying a head of lettuce, and using the lettuce as a bun. You can add some American cheese and mayo/ketchup/mustard, and WAHLAH!
Low carb hamburger that is so yummy. I add bacon on mine too!0 -
Thanks everyone! I think I'll be okay, but there's so much to do between now and the first surgery (7/22) that I don't want to forget my eating plan and leave it till the last minute. Won't be walking much at first - arthroscopic on my knee. And when I AM back on my feet, I'll be back to work which keeps me out of the kitchen lol
LOVE MFP and all my MFP friends!!0 -
How about laughing cow cheese wedges. I would be lost without them. I put on a tortilla with either shredded lettuce, hummus, and any kind of sliced deli meat preferably turkey breast. I roll it up slice in pinwheels and serve with a fresh fruit. It just looks bigger when you see so many of them. I know, , kind of silly..... Best to you and will also say a prayer... Take care0
