Sports Bras and Shorts for Women

Hello!

Any suggestions on the best compression shorts and sports bras for bigger women? I've read good things about Under Armour but I'm a bit hesitant to shell out $50 but for sports bra, but if that's what I have to do I'll make it happen. I'm a 38DD so I prefer sports bras that are sized specifically rather than S, M, L, etc. And as for the compression shorts- I'm training for my first half and I thought the shorts I have now would suffice but now that I've hit 6 mile runs I can tell I might start chafing soon.

Thanks in advance!

Check out titlenine.com. They have an extensive selection of sports bras that are ranked by a committee, sized with regular bra sizing, marked of their level of support, etc. I've gotten a couple from them, and probably paid more than $40 for each, but they were well worth it. They're having a sale now.

(No, I don't work for them. Actually I haven't even bought anything from them in years, just think it might be exactly what you're looking for.)

I have no experience with compression shorts. I've read a lot of good things about Old Navy's compression capris, and their stuff is reasonably priced.

I just got two sized sports bras by Moving Comfort, 36 DD. Before that I would just wear two of the cheap ones. These are much better; more comfortable, better support, and no more uniboob. I found one on clearance at the big name sporting goods store for like $12. It's oddly colored but works perfectly.
I can't help with compression shorts. I run in whatever dry weave capris I can get cheap and haven't had chafing issues yet, up to ten mile runs. My chafing issue is from the edge of my tank under my arms. I'm still working on figuring that out. I have scars there now :/

Love my shock absorber ultimate run bra (have 6 in all the different colours, yes I'm aware I have a problem)!!

From compression point of view, I'm not convinced these would prevent chafing, but certainly trying different shorts will give you an idea if it's all shorts or maybe you need to look at Glide (or similar), I really like my 2XU compression top, even if it's a pain in the *kitten* to get into and out of (it's like an extra workout), got an UA compression top and I'm not keen on the neck on it (it's tiny and trying to get your head through it can be a struggle)!
Skins also get a good rep for compression but haven't tried them.

    Good luck on the half:)

edited: I've done a full marathon and the only rubbing issues I had (with the exception of toes that I knew about and had blister plasters on before I started) was my under arm rubbing on the sleeve of my top, I would look at a tank top or a full length sleeve next time, but that was a full marathon, would probably be ok with a half.

I just got one from under armor and very pleased with it (although it takes some wiggling to get into it). I am waiting for my order from moving comfort to arrive. I am 36E, and hoping that will reduce a bit in the coming year! With the snug fit of the under armor, I expect to still be able to wear it for some time yet.

ETA: I got nothing on the shorts.

I used to like Moving Comfort compression shorts. I only wear capri yoga pants now and I buy those mostly at TJ Maxx and Marshalls and have found many comfy ones that don't squeeze your waist.

Seconded. My Panache is my favourite by far and absolutely worth every penny.

Don't know about shorts… but I like Cacique's sport bras. Available through Lane Bryant. Just a note… I DON'T like the LB brand. Get the Cacique ones.

I wear under armour knee-length compression shorts. When you go to buy compression shorts, make sure you try them on and try a few bodyweight squats in the fitting room. I've found several different brands that are see thru but don't look it until you start moving in them.

As for sports bras, I'm not well-endowed, so I have no suggestions.

I like Panache, mine is great, but I recently ordered a Glamorize sports bra from Amazon, which costs less than $30 and I really like it. It has a panel in front that you can adjust based on activity (more or less bounce). I followed the advice of many of the reviewers of this bra, and ordered my regular sports bra cupsize, DD, but one band size up from my normal 36. So this bra is a 38DD and fits perfectly and you can not beat the price! No advice on the shorts. I wear Champion Shape capris, which are very comfortable and give a nice shape. If they make a shorts version of these, they may be worth checking out.

I wear Under Armour 7 inch compression shorts, love them! Have several pairs of black ones and thinking about buying other colors. If you decide to get them, make sure you try them on first. As far as bras go, I also have UA Gotta-have-it wire free bra, but I'm a b-cup, so while it's perfect for me, might not work so great for you. The one thing I can say about UA products: they last for ever. And no, I do not work for them

Definitely titlenine.com for sports bras. Especially their "last resort" bra (as someone who used to be that size) And I love my UnderArmour compression shorts. I wore them for a half marathon last year and had no chafing issues. Good luck with your training!
