Protein and fiber both make you feel full for longer. On top of that, protein is important to consume to maintain as much muscle mass as possible while losing weight.
I am sure there are people here who have lost over 50 lbs following their plan.0 -

90% (guesstimate) of the successful people on this board use IIFYM, myself included.0 -
I've done it. It worked for me.
But I want to ask how you're setting your goals? A lot of people think that a site like iifym.com is the only way to choose what your goals will be in order to practice IIFYM, and they end up with really high protein goals that seem impossible to reach. But the beauty of IIFYM is that it's endlessly flexible with how you set up your macros. You might just want to look into a different set-up if the one you have now isn't right for you.0 -

I was trying to set it for fat loss at reckless (25%) and it ended up being like 1800 calories, I have been dieting since January and a lot of days I eat 1200, although during the weekend I usually don't count calories so I know I go way over that. I basically have yo-yo dieted for 6 months and like 30 pounds. The past month I haven't really lost anything.0

IIFYM (If It Fits in Your Mouth) -
May I ask what's wrong with protein and fiber?
I don't think I follow IIFYM, but I could be wrong. I focus more on calories, but I try to get close to my macro goals every day. I usually go over in protein and fiber, but I consider that a good thing.0 -
Technically speaking anyone who uses Myfitnesspal and has macro nutrient goals (nearly all of us) are doing IIFYM. I lost over 100 using it.0
-
Nothing is wrong with protein and fiber, it just says I need like 180g of protein and 45 of fiber....I have never eaten that much. I could hit that in carbs though! lol0

I made an entire series of videos on starting IIFYM including a video on how to calculate your own macros based on how much you need to lose.0 -

Why oh why would you set your goal at "reckless"? Reckless is not a good thing here. And If you're eating less than what it tells you to eat with the setting at reckless, you need to pack some food in. You're probably yo-yo dieting because you're eating WAY too little on weekdays and overeating on weekends. It's easy to fall off the bandwagon when you're not committed, which you're clearly not.
I eat more on weekends than weekdays as well, but I log EVERYTHING, even if I'm over my goals. And I stay under my weekly goal 3 out of 4 weeks per month. I have one *kitten* it weekend a month, but try to keep my weekly average at maintenance. If you're not logging every single thing, you have no clue how much you're eating.0 -
Don't choose reckless. Reckless is for guys who have a bodybuilding show coming up in a month and forget to get lean. Use aggressive.
OH! lol0 -

I didn't realize that was you! I've been watching some of your videos lately.0 -

I know  , I have been having a lot of f*** it weekends lately0 -
When I first joined MFP I thought it meant If It Fits Your Mouth.
Not kidding.
Anyway, I don't live or die by my macros but I try to stay within 50gs of my macro goals, giving protein the priority and it really works for me.0 -

I know it's hard to see that red number, but remember that your body is keeping up with how much you eat, whether you track it or not. Track everything.0 -
It overestimates protein by a big margin. The calculator wasn't designed for people who are overweight. This might help you: http://goo.gl/zqIv6H

I'm watching them now! Fantastic advice and resource. I will gladly take advice from someone with a story such as Vismal's, so I am watching and fixing my macros now0 -
I've never referred to myself as "doing IIFYM", I've just been doing what makes sense....counting calories, hitting a calorie goal while making sure my diet is balanced (getting enough protein and fat, filling with carbs and hitting my micros). After watching vismal's videos pretty clear that means I am "doing IIFYM" although I agree with his point that IIFYM isn't really a diet its just an approach to tracking that makes sense.0
-
IIFYM is the way to go!
Eating that way makes you eat reasonably healthy because you want to hit those macros.0 -
Hope all of you don't mind if I send you friend requests0

That kinda gets lost on these boards as every discussion seems to go to extremes. Realistically, I think anyone that is fit and has their macros set up reasonably has to eat a pretty damn balanced diet to get the progress they want. Unfortunately on here, that one donut you ate will turn into "you can't eat donuts all day every day" by the end of most of the threads....lol.0 -

That's what I try to do.
Some days I rock at it, some days not so much.
Good luck to you.0 -
