149 pounds…..26 years old…...and three months to go until I try to run 13.1 miles. Nervous? You bet ya! Worried of failure? No question. I’m I ready to try and finish something for once in my life? MORE THAN EVER!!!! Al Roker just finished the New York City marathon. If he can do it, we ALL can do it! I started my training this week. I was supposed to run 3 miles yesterday….I made it 5 mins and thought my lungs were going to shoot out of me! These are some of the things I need help with:
1.) Breathing tips
2.) Diet’s for runners
3.) Motivation when you just can get yourself to open the door and go!
4.) Tricks for pain

If you haven't been running regularly, I would recommend a beginner running program. Having a solid base before you train for a 1/2 marathon will set you up for more success with less injury. Either that or you could use your marathon training program and walk/run your mileage. There are many people who do a combination or even walk the 1/2 marathon. The goal is to have fun and finish without hurting yourself. Good luck!

Me too! I've been jogging for about 8 months now and just completed a 10K. My 1/2 is in March. I think the most important things I've learned is 1. Pace and 2. Patience. I use a GPS watch now to make sure my pace is slow enough and I never listen to music with more than 80 beats/minute. I tend to go way to fast for my ability when I don't pay close attention to pace. The patience part is the same as weight loss for me. It just takes time to train.
I'm sure some other more experienced folks will be by with good advice, I'll be checking back. Feel free to friend me, I'd love to see how your journey goes!0 -

Thanks for the tip. :flowerforyou:
I find I get a little impatient and somehow screw up my breathing pace. I still have yet to control my breathing because I tend to get stitches 20mins into running. I'm still struggling with Couch to 5K, but yes, this program is definitely building my stamina. I just need to be more patient.0 -
Lebrun, What is your starting mileage?0

PS....I am the same age and live in the same town. I am always up for looking for a running buddy.
I listen to embarassingly weird music while I run. It has to be loud and angry or just really kick butt (Iron Maiden, Flo-rida, Linkin Park, 50 Cent, Kittie)0
