so confused, somewhat frustrated

I have been trying to lose weight for about two months now, and everything started great, I lost about 13 pounds in about 5 weeks, but the last 2 or 3 weeks it feels as though I am losing nothing. The scale is not moving at all, just fluctuating between the same 2-3 pounds up and down. I am eating within my calorie goal, and am exercising almost every day, a mix of cardio and moderate strength exercises. I don't understand what could be causing this. Could I not be eating enough calories? Do I need to exercise more? I don't focus on the scale, but even seeing the scale go down half a pound a week would make me feel like I am having success in accomplishing my goals. Any advice or suggestions are welcome!

Weight loss is not linear. Be patient, and take measurements and photos, too.

I'd suggest giving it more time, no matter how frustrating it is in the short term.

You need to start taking measurements. The same thing happened to me -- I'd been losing weight steadily for a few weeks, and then had a few weeks where I didn't seem to lose anything. But when I started taking my measurements, I realized that I was still getting smaller! You need to remember that muscle weighs more than fat, so even if the scale's not moving (or even going up) you could still be getting smaller. So take your measurements every 2-3 weeks and track your progress that way as opposed to the scale, good luck!

Are you weighing everything you eat and measuring your liquids?
  • Thanks for the advice. I am going to start taking measurements, and yes, I have just recently started measuring and weighing portions to make sure I am not over eating. I am noticing a difference in how my clothes are fitting so I guess regardless of what the scale says, I must be doing something right!
