I can't tell if I'm getting sick or if its all in my head. To go to the gym or not to...that is the question??

If you are having difficulty breathing then no, don't go. If you're just tired/sore/heachachy then go.
Those are my rules anyway.0 -
That's a good question! For me, if it's something I can identify as a mild cold, I'll still go and feel okay. However, if I feel wonky, I will skip it and try to stay under my regular calorie allottment. I'm not too much of a gym rat, so I am not one to push myself even when sick. I think of it as a gift to my ailing body, but I know others who have said they feel better after working out. I think it's one of those personal decisions!0

well, i don't go to the gym, but if i did, i would want people who think they are getting sick to stay home so they don't possibly share their germs with everyone else
but if i think i'm getting sick, i usually slow down - less intensity, maybe just walk... if you're sick your body should use the energy to heal itself not lose weight.0 -
Go to the gym and see how you feel when you get there. If its really not working for you then just bail out and go home. This is also what I do when I just plain dont feel like going.0

I agree - it depends on what you're sick with. If there is coughing, sneezing, or a runny nose, I would stay home. If there is difficulty breathing, then nope. If it's a headache, it's a toss up. I'm more inclined to go to bed and try and sleep it off.
I'm just getting over the flu and haven't worked out in about 4 weeks because of it. Doctor's orders.0 -
If you aren't sure if it is all in your head or not, go to the gym.
If you are sure you are feeling sick either tone down your workout, substitute something easier (like a walk), or skip it all together so your body has a chance to recover.0 -

Could you try to work out at home instead? I usually try to do a workout dvd at home when I feel like I'm coming down with something. It keeps me from spreading germs and getting others sick. If you do decide to work out, make it a lighter workout so your body can recover more quickly and fight off anything.0
