Confused!! Cardio vs Strengh How much of each?

Help! I have read loads but still not sure what exercise I should be doing! Including the recommend posts like sexy pants.
I'm happy with my diet I think I have got that right, am eating healthily and I am losing weight slowly, which I am happy with. The exercise is for fitness and toning, although if it helps with the loss all the better.
I am currently 5'5" and weigh 140lbs, have a small frame, until I started working full time and sitting down all day and succumbing to the treats that go round the office I was always about 125 lbs.
I have never been good at exercise, hopelessly uncoordinated also broke a knee cap as a child, running always leads to pain and my knee giving way, walking is much better.
I have started walking 4 miles approximately 3 times a week, I complete this in just over an hour and there are some serious hills where I live which really make me feel like I am really working at that pace. The days I don't walk I try to do 20 mins on the treadmill at a pace of 6km per hour with a slight elevation.
However, I am now concerned that this maybe too much cardio and could lead to muscle loss after reading lots of post?? I am a bit clueless when it comes to strength training. Are ankle wrist weights any good?
I am not going to join a gym, cant afford it, not close enough to easily get to, around work, kids etc, need something I can do at home? Don't want to start something I can't keep up and fail at.
Any suggestions? I don't want to be muscly, just healthy and a bit more toned up. I have never have good muscle tone or strength, so don't want to make this worse.
Thank you.

Look into the YAYOG app for your smartphone.
It's a progressive strength training program without gym/equipment needs. Sounds like it would be right up your street...0 -
An hour of low to moderate intensity CV work isnt going to lead to muscle loss, as long as you fuel it. You're only talking about 300 to 400 calories.
If you were doing several hours of high intensity CV, and not adequately fuelling yourself. Then it might be an issue.
That said, id support the suggestion of You Are Your Own Gym as complementary to your training in your circumstances.0
