My Introduction to running.

Well I have lost a lot of weight and gotten a lot fitter. I have been burning at the gym for months and a few days ago I made the decision to try and incorporate more physical activities into my daily life. One of those things I decided to try was running. I looked into doing c25k and today I set out to do my first "run".

Well it turned out to be pouring down with rain today but I was not to be deterred! And boy I am glad I tried I began my run with a nice brisk 3 minute walk just like c2k told me too but once I got running I didn't see much point in stopping. I just kept going enjoying the feel of the warm rain. At a moderate pace at first. I looked down at my pedometer after a while and I was starting to feel tired and I had already clocked up 2.5k XD.

At that point my mp3 players music hit a rather andrenaline charged note at the same time I was going downhill. I couldn't resist and kicked my legs and every other muscle in my body into overdrive I wanted to see how fast I could go. It felt like hitting warp speed lol. The terrain started to blur and every muscle in my body sang. I don't even remember going that fast in my life. Maybe I did as a kid but it was a long forgotten distant memory. I have been slow and fat a long long time. And this, this felt like victory.

Of course it only lasted 3 more minutes and I had seriously depleted my energy. But still I was not to be deterred! I set a goal that I would go so far and turn back and go home. And I managed to do just that but this time using c25k's 90second jog 60 second rest 2nd week format. I had estimated my distance at about 5km and it wasn't too far off. In the end I had ran and ran/intervaled 6.1km's I was soaked with rain from head to toe and every muscle in my body radiated heat. Geez I felt alive. I think i'm in love.

No questions or anything just thought I would share a rather singular and awesome experience.

Very very nice. Running in the rain is one of my favorite things to do. It keeps you cool and it's soothing and calming. I just draw the line if it's 40 degrees or under. That's not as much fun. You've hit on two things that make running outside so much better than a treadmill. First of all there's the variance. Weather, wind, sunrise/set, and the great feeling when you go outside and it's crisp and cool. Inside it's the same every day and outside you're going to have so much variety. Secondly there's no treadmill you can step off of and quit. If you run out 2 miles it's still 2 miles back to the house. You're going to hit your goal every time.

Good music does make it go by more quickly sometimes. Make a playlist with stuff that keeps you feeling up and mentally motivated since half of the battle is in your head. That really helps on days when you might feel a bit down on energy or not as motivated.

Thanks for sharing and that's great that you enjoyed it. That means you're more likely to repeat the effort and more likely to develop great fitness habits.

Awesome!! I did C25K in a group setting and ran my first 5k two weeks ago...but since then I've been struggling with it and today only did 1 mile, earlier in the week went 2 miles. My commitment was wavering, but I love your story and want to be like you!

Great work and motivation! Thank you.

Thanks all. We will see if I stick with it. But personally I enjoyed it so much that I doubt I will flake out. I'm not running a whole 5k yet remember I did that sprint and then had to do intervals all the way back home lol. We will see how I do on my next run which will be on saturday :) Friday bein a gym day.
