Motivating yourself to start?

Hello :)

I gained 20 lbs over 4 years. I was ill and spent all that time very sedentary (in comparison to how I was before). By February of this year I was feeling better, started eating better and exercising and by May I had lost the weight. I am now maintaining (sometimes I have to lose a pound sometimes gain two or three) and have been doing a lot of walking (I average 13 miles a day, including just normal daily steps). When I started trying to lose the weight I was doing some resistance and saw positive changes occur in my body and was very pleased. Then I decided I needed a better routine, bought some books, watched some videos, started strategizing but that's about it. Never went back to it. I have become the queen of excuses. "I will start Monday". But by Monday night I have not done anything. Right now I just look wicked skinny. I have always (other than the period I was ill) been very small and eaten quite a bit and have had people think that I have an eating disorder (you should see the looks I get when I'm eating out and I get an app, entree and dessert). Not that I care what people think but, truly, it would be nice to add some healthy looking bulk. Any advice on how to go about it? How do you get yourself started and then stick to it?

I'm female, 52 years old, 5'6 and 119 lbs right now (working back to my ideal 120 one pasta bowl at a time). Oh, and I have been a vegetarian for 22 years.

Thanks in advance for any help.

its just like going for a polar dip, just jump in without thinking about it. the more you put it off the harder it will be to start, and i guarantee once you do get going you wont regret it

set up same realistic goals and make a plan that will help you achieve them. if you dont it will be too easy to stray off the beaten path and go back to your old ways

You'll be motivated once you decide it's what you WANT to do. You know the reasons why you should, but it's an internal thing. Just like you can't make an alcoholic stop drinking unless they want to, you have to really want to start. If you have any self doubt about it, then you probably really don't want to do it yet.
