For anyone that has the Polar FT4 or similar Polar product such as the FT7, is the device safe to wear in the sand? I would like to wear it while I play in a sand volleyball tournament tomorrow but I'm not sure if that would damage the device.

They're water resistant so you shouldn't have an issue with sand. Unless it's quicksand and then you have bigger issues than your watch.
If you wear this in the water just don't push the buttons when your watch is underwater. It states that in the user guide.0 -
I've worn it to the beach. I did have one issue, but it was easily fixed. I don't know if it was the sand or salt water, but one of my buttons stopped working after my trip to the beach. I just let it soak in a cup of tap water for 2 hours and it works just fine now (3 months later).
Like PP said, don't push the buttons while it's underwater (if you get in the water at all).0
