What are you eating? Some foods tend to be more filling and keep you satisfied longer than others. Raw veggies and fruit, I find, keep me feeling fuller longer. Same with reduced or full fat yogurt and cottage cheese as opposed to fat free. Protein will also keep you feeling less hungry.

Would you mind sharing your diary so we can see? :) Also with 1600 calories you could probably do 5 decent size meals depending on what you are eating. :) When I have those "hungry days" where all I feel like doing is eating all day I split my calories up into multiple meals instead of just 3. So I do a lot of protein and veggies dishes which allows me to get more "bang for my buck" per se than fast food or packaged dinners etc :) If you are finding yourself always hungry maybe try that approach and see if it helps :) Everyone is different though and I am sure others will have some great suggestions also :)

You may want to consider cutting back on the carbs -- especially from grains and starchy vegetables. Do you know if you have insulin resistance? IR makes most people quite hungry when they eat a lot of carbs, especially high glycemic carbs like grains and starchy vegetables. Many find that if they cut back on the carbs and focus on getting them mostly from non-starchy vegetables and occasional fruit, it helps curb the hunger and cravings.

Meals with 100g lean protein, a cupful of carb-rich food and 1-3 cups of vegetables tend to be give a good bang for your buck. Don't forget some kind of sauce as long as there isn't too much to add interest to the meal. Another part of the equation is having the right mindset (I eat this plate of food by itself), not leaving extra food to nibble at and pre-portioning meat/carbs. There is less scope for snacking/treats at 1600 cal, but if you have 3 x 400 calorie meals per day, that's 400 calories you can use just for treats!

Were you losing weight at 2000 calories?

I'm taller than you are but my weight is similar - 253ish today - and I'm doing ok at 1600 - 1800 calories. Sometimes even higher.
Some days I'm hungrier than others so I eat. It takes a lot of calories to maintain this kind of weight so I think we can afford to have a higher calorie level. I figure at 2000, I'm probably still at a 800 or 1000 calorie deficit.
I'm retired and sit around a lot so it's not like I'm burning up a bunch of calories.

I'm losing weight, not super fast but 6.8 lb since Jun 18 and that's with several 3000+ calorie days thrown in.

I like a big meal, too. Makes me happy!

Finding that balance of eating enough to keep my mind and tummy happy but still lose weight is a learning experience.

If I were you, I wouldn't go all nuts and cut too low. That'll just make you frustrated. Tweak it a bit and find your sweet spot. Don't think that you have to eat the same amount of calories day in and day out either.
Some days I could eat the whole fridge and others, I'm meh about eating.

I hope you find what works!

If your maintenance is 2290 (without exercise? I am not sure if you mentioned how active you are - if that's your TDEE without exercise you can make it a lot higher if you start working out ), and you're having trouble sticking to 1600, my suggestion is to up your calories and take the slightly slower weight loss. It's not worth it if you're that hungry every day - you're going to find it difficult to keep it up in the face of that kind of hunger. My TDEE is similar to yours, between 2300 and 2400ish,and I have my calorie goal set to 1850 a day but I really only worry about my weekly average coming out somewhere between 1850 and 2000. Before, when I was shooting for lower calories (1600-1800 range) I was losing faster, but I was also bingeing pretty regularly and I was always hungry. Since I upped my calories, I've also been able to work out a lot harder and it's sooo much easier to stick to plan at the higher level. That's just my personal experience, which obviously might not work for you, but I thought I'd share

Congratulations on your new baby! :flowerforyou:

Are you breastfeeding by any chance? I think you can add those calories back in as well. I see some diaries of nursing moms who add 250 - 300 calories back in for that.

There's not a lot of fat in your diet.

Try adding nuts, seeds, avocado, oils like olive and coconut.

The calories sounds right for your height and current weight. If you are sedentary as you say, you can't really afford any more calories. I'd look at what you're eating. I'm guessing you're getting very little good fat and perhaps very little protein. Those are the things you need to make you feel full and helps you to lose weight. That's where I suggest you look first.

Consider drinking whole fat organic milk if you drink milk. Cut out the skim stuff and low fat stuff. It's not just about calories in, calories out. It's also about what those calories consist of.

    Good luck.

never thought to add fat because it has so much calories for not really a lot to eat like tablespoon of oil for 120 calories i can eat 4oz bake breast instead but ill guess ill try the other way around.
