good calories vs. bad calories

I know that eating a total garbage diet, even if you stay within your calories is not good, but what about splurges here and there? Does our body know the difference between good and bad calories as long as there aren't too many of them?
For instance, I ate a pretty low cal breakfast and lunch and I just took a walk, so I have found that I have plenty of calories left for the two slices of pizza that I planned on having for dinner and perhaps even a hundred or two calories left over after that. So I will be staying within my allotment for the day, but I feel so guilty for the pizza. As long as I am not going over, will my body react differently (weight gain wise) to that pizza, versus something more healthy for the same amount of calories?
Though so far I have been on track with losing a pound a week, so even if the pizza is bad, I must be doing something right with my little splurges:drinker:

I say if things are going good for you then go for it!!! :drinker:
Like you said I wouldn't "splurge" every day, but once a week or so isn't bad. I don't believe in depriving yourself - I think it only makes you want it more!!!
BTW, Good weight loss!!! :happy:0 -
I still eat everything I did before I started managing my diet, but portions are a lot smaller than they used to be.
Now, with that being said, last weekend I had tons of calories left over, so we ordered pizza and I had 3 slices. Sunday morning I woke up and went out for a jog. My butt was DRAGGING around that track. I felt like a slug, my energy was way off, and the pizza ... uh.... took it's sweet time exiting, if you know what I mean. I cursed those delicious 3 slices all day on Sunday.
I say eat the pizza if you can "afford" it, just don't do something you'll regret the next day...:blushing:0 -
Banks had an awesome thread about how it works, and the misconception that eating a ton of calories at one time is ok, while eating lightly the rest of the day. I wish I could find it.
Basically, if you eat too many calories at one time, your blood sugar level spikes. To keep your body from going into a diabetic shock, your pancreas releases insulin to cut down the sugar level, which causes fat to form as a result. At least, thats the gist of it... it'd be better to have a slice of pizza in the afternoon, and then once closer to be than to have them both at the same time.
So long as you have room you should be ok, but its better to graze than to have a really big meal0
