Hi all, first time posting. I would like to know how everybody out there likes to recover from a bad day of eating? Yesterday, I got hired for a new job so I decided to go out an celebrate. One thing led to another, drinks were consumed at the bar, which turned into 4, ordered out....etc.
I did make sure to track my foods/drinks just to see, but I am curious about your thoughts. Workout extra hard today? Maybe don't eat my exercise calories?
I look forward to being a more active member of myfitnesspal!

That was yesterday. Let it go. Weight isn't lost or gained in any one 24 hour period. It is only done over time. Think of it as a reward for all the hard work you've done so far.0

first thing I do is drink tons of water!!!! Then I make sure to exercise extra long and eat my normal calories!! 1 day won't throw you off just keep at it!!
Good luck!!0 -
I've had a bad few days here and there...I am having one today! LOL BUT it is important to not let this stop you and move forward. I used to tend to get into a funk after a bad day and let them continue so it is better to just have a good day today and let that move you forward in a positive direction.
Now...if I could just listen to my own advice. Haha.0 -
I burn about 200+ extra calories asap and make sure I stick to eating VERY wholesome healthy and suiting my needs type foods for the next few days with no extravagant treats or slip ups but...I never beat myself up over it, that makes the fat stick for sure hah,
I also drink lots of water and try to figure out why I justified the slip up in the first place (in my case the last one was halloween and my thinking was well, it's a holiday! lol needless to say, I've got a handle on thanksgiving already cause I do not want a repeat of halloween)0 -
im no expert and alot of advice still confuses me and contradicts things i've heard over the years but what SEEMS to work for me is drinking more water that next day than i usually do, get a good workout in and stay under those allotted calories for the day. I dont know if it's right or not, but eating over my calories one day is the same as missing a workout so I make up for it the next day by doing double... thats just me i could b e wrong in how to handle it! .....i also agree with, its one day/one meal...let it go. today is a new day, start fresh, do things right and have a nice memory from yesterday lol0

I agree, it was yesterday "Don't ruin today by worrying about yesterday's problems" ~ Anon0 -
I don't worry about it. One day won't have much, if any, effect on your long term goal. One day won't make you gain any weight. As long as you are "good" most of the week you'll be fine.
I take weekends "off". I don't go to the gym or worry about my calories and I've found that I lose more weight over the weekend than I do during the rest of the week.0 -
I usually let it go for the most part- go right back to business as usual: I stick to generally healthy foods as I normally might and and do what ever workouts I had planned. If you ate anything partic heavy or sodium filled, you can expect some bloating weight for a couple days. But I just don't see overdoing it 1 in a while as a problem or a bad thing. It's why you are changing- so things like that become the exception not the rule. Not so you can do without them forever, or spend whole days obsessing over that one indulgence.
That kind of "pennance" mindframe would drive me crazy.0 -
Thanks for all the reassurance. It's really not that big of a deal, you're right. At least now I am accounting for all the extra calories, instead of just not worrying about it. This site has truly put food and the amount of food we need vs. want into perspective.0

I agree with drinking extra water for the next few days, flushing your system after a night of indiscretion is the best way to recover! That's what my nutritionist says as well!
I also agree with making sure to not worry about it too much and get right back on track!0
