Running

So after about 3 years of recovery from a knee injury, I'm finally cleared to start doing some light jogging. I started couch to 5k and I'm actually enjoying the jogging part.
My problem is that it looks all the incline walks I have been doing have improved my cardio fitness but my legs are really out of shape, probably because I unconsciously limited my range of movement due to my knee injury. Cardio-wise the jogging part is not very taxing, but 30 seconds into those 1 minute jogs I start feeling the burn in my legs, particularly the outer of my calves and thighs, and my shins. The inside and middle parts are fine. By the time the 1 minute ends my legs are almost shaking.
What leg muscles are involved in running and what are some good moves that would help me strengthen them?

Squats and lunges are always good. But just the running itself will make your legs stronger. Keep at it.0
