Hi!
I am a twenty year old girl who is seriously trying to lose weight for the first time. My first year of college, I lost twenty pounds, but I think I have gained most of it back again.
I've been floating at 245-250 pounds ever since I reached my full height at thirteen years old, and I'm really tired of it - specifically of how difficult it is to find comfortable clothing, and how gross I sometimes feel. I have asthma, too, so I think I would probably be healthier if I got down to around 190-200 pounds.
Just to clarify here, I am 5'9" tall, and have a very broad shouldered build. I don't think it would be reasonable to expect myself to get down to 160 or whatever, because my sister is built smaller than me, and is very healthy at 180. But 250 is definitely too fat for me. I felt a lot better for the brief time I weighed 225. So, I am excited to start.
Currently, my plan is to start deliberately trying to eat to my calorie goal (which it turns out is still over 2000/day!) and go on walks more frequently.
What I think could be a problem eventually is the fact that I have trouble thinking of food to eat. I can cook anything relatively simple that I remember I like, but I have a developmental disability, and it is very difficult for me to think of new foods to try, or remember the foods I am already used to which are appropriate to the situation. Similarly, excercise is difficult for me because I have low muscle tone - and *not* in the way that fitness people use the term. I have a version of this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Low_muscle_tone
So, it will be a big challenge for me, but I am excited for it. Nice to meet you all.
