After many months of eating healthy and exercising, I am still within same 5 lbs i started at. One person has told me sounds like I may have thyroid issue. My issue is at this time I dont have insurance to have this issue checked. I seem to only drop weight with under 1000 cals of food. What should I do or any advice what I can do to try to help make the weight start moving.

I work out 30 mins-45 mins a night cardio. I do 2 nights weight training and 2 times HIIT training. I have been eating about 1410- 1650 cals a day. Im currently at 196 lbs, size 12.

sweetheart, you really should have it checked. make payments to the dr if you have to. the thyroid controls your entire body system.... from your immune system, blood pressure, weight, and other systems. i have hashimoto's disease and get my blood levels checked every few months. i find that i have a horrible time losing weight and gain incredibly easily. for your health, please have your blood checked. there are medicines to help regulate the thyroid hormones.

If you have a family doctor, call and have them order the lab for you. My last TSH lab was billed at $108, but the insurance negotiated price was $20. So. . . Call a lab and negotiate the price b4 the testing. Or, do an online search for a self TSH test. Costs $35-$40. High TSH reading indicates Low Thyroid.

There is a lab that I go to for cheap blood tests because I dont have insurance and I'm unemployed. I have been on thyroid since I was 11 years old. 6 years ago either the doctor or the pharmacy messed up my prescription. It went for a year undetected. I woke up at 3 am one night and I knew it was my thyroid that was messing me up again. Looked on the internet... found a conversion table and discovered I was only get 10% if what I needed. They wont put you back where u should be immediately. For over 45 years I was on 300... but now they say they cant put me back there, will only put me to 250, because it might affect my heart. (Please, it it was going to damage my heart... it already has). They have gotten real stinky about blood tests... its a constant battle to get a renewal with out an appoitment, but I keep going to this lab... $25 for thyroid test. It's all I can afford. It's the same lab that provides service to doctors and hospitals, but they are under contract. I will look it up and tell you later. They have this lab all over the US.

I would try to find out what your tsh is.try to work it with your family dr if possible.I have hashimotoes and have been on medication for several years. My levels are normal now with medication, but I too struggle with the wt loss.I am on a 1200 cal diet and unless I ex everyday,my wt stays the same or goes up.
The thyroid affects your whole body,so you really should find a way to have it checked.
    Good luck!!

I'm in the same boat as Jane. It's really tough to lose weight if your thyroid is off, plus you feel "off" too! I do hope you can get it checked out. I am surprised at how much better I feel since I've been on thyroid medication. Take care and don't give up!

The lab I was talking about has 2 names... either PAML ( pathology associates medical laboratories) or Results Direct
look into it ... much cheaper or go to www.results-direct.com
  • I have heard you need multiple tests as the levels can change -- is that true?
