Hi Everyone!

I just joined MFP today--having been doing WW for the last several months. This is a whole new mind-set for me! I am used to watching calories/fat/fiber and not really paying any attention to carbs. Checking out some of the WW meals I have been eating, I'm shocked at the amount of carbs I'm finding!

Is there someplace on this site that lists sample menus? What do you typically eat? Are there menu threads? Guess I'm looking for meal ideas---just until I get my bearings!!

Any help or ideas would be appreciated!!

Thanks so much!

  • Hi! Welcome! I kind of do like you do in weight watchers but instead of points go by calories. You will like it here!

If you look up a diabetic diet online- like through the Lilly (the makers of insulin) you can find lot's of ideas that are well balanced. Also Pyramid.com is a really good sight. A basic rule of thumb is to split your plate into quarters. One quarter should be meat, one quarter starch, the other half green veggies. Also try to plan in 3 veggies and 2 fruits in your meals before you add anything else. I eat lot's of baked fish and chicken, steamed veggies, frozen fruit, lowfat yogurt with fruit and granola, and turkey sandwiches on low cal bread. Good luck and welcome aboard. Oh, and some of the people on your friends list may have their food diary's public so you can get ideas from them.
  • It really is up to you. You have to find out what you like to eat and what is healthy and stick to that. Mypyramid is good to go by. Typically lots of fruits and vegetables in meals. I also eat a lot of soup. I'm not sure if you stuck to 3 meals a day with WW or if you did a number of smaller meals. I typically eat a larger breakfast to get me through until I can eat again because of my work schedule. If you are able to eat 3 meals a day, I like the rule "Breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and supper like a pauper".
