New workout advice

Hello all,

I am currently looking at a new workout but I am not sure how good it really is or if it is even possible. It is broken up into levels and I would begin at level 1:

LEVEL ONE

Run 2 Miles (Goal: 14 Minutes)
Alternating Cable Chest Press- 100 Reps Each Side with 20 lbs
Horse Stance - 5 Minutes
Handstand Practice w/Wall Support- 2 Minutes Total
"Sword Work"- 30 Minutes

Obviously this is a pretty demanding workout and is not an everyday thing. It would be a once a week type exercise to fit in with the rest of my week's workout schedule. Also I want to point out that i do not own a sword nor am I a swordsman in anyway (and I do not hope to become one) So sword work would not be factored into this workout.

My questions are:
Is this actually a great workout or just a bit crazy?
What other things can be added in exchange for "sword work"?
Is this workout dangerous on a person's body?
Any other advice or helpful comments?

P.S.
Just some info about myself. I have been working out for a few years now. I am in good shape but there is always much more progress to be made. I work 8 hours a day and get my workouts in after work and before dinner (4-5:30 time frame).

Also if anyone is interested in the other levels here is the link to the website: http://real-anime-training.blogspot.com/2011/05/one-piece-zoros-training.html

This does not seem like a good workout to me..

First of all, you shouldn't do 100 reps of any resistance training.. You want to do minimal reps with heavy weight, not tons of reps with low weight.

Sword work out?? I don't think a trainer made this plan.. lol

Handstands are good for your shoulders and core, but I don't think they should be the foundation of your workout. My wrists hurt a lot after 45 seconds, so I'd be weary of doing two minutes

Look up strong lifts 5x5. That is a good routine designed to make you strong

This does not look like a routine any trainer would recommend

It also depends on what your goals are... Are you trying to lose weight or gain muscle?

I do not think there is much credibility with this routine. Though that doesn't mean there can't put a professional spin on it (much like the batman workout by Men's Fitness which was not recommended at all lol.) I was hoping there were some professionals or long time experts to be able to shed advice or possible recommend their own take.

And I agree with your points about the numbers. As I said to me it looked alittle crazy with that.

Also just an FYI "sword work" is a broad term for any sword training for instance shadow sparing. Sword work is an equivalent to practicing MMA or doing some boxing work.

A workout like this would be more focused on toning up a body than making it bulky which is something I am interested in (I am 5'7, 178 pounds, not much possibility for me to be a huge guy lol).

    Thank you for the response!

You can do regular strength training without getting "bulky." You would have to be actively trying to bulk up and achieve those results by eating at a significant surplus and consistently increasing the weight you lift. Getting bulky isn't something that will happen by accident.

You mentioned you are planning to add this, or some variation, to your current fitness routine. What are you doing on your work out days already? That may help us point you in the right direction.

Why would you look to cartoons for workouts?

Though it's interesting that the page in the OP is no longer there.

Wasn't looking for a work out. Stumbled on it, love the show, so I figured I would ask about it. Never hurts to ask a question.

I don't feel like listing my entire plan but I will sum it up.

    Monday: Biceps and shoulder
    Tuesday: Legs
    Wednesday: Chest and triceps
    Thursday: Back

I try to fit abs on three of these four days along with some cardio at the very end which distance varies based on how i feel after a workout. Weekends I like to do some yoga and was thinking maybe something like this could be a weekend thing. Also it would be alittle fun to spice things up from my usual routine even if I only did this a few times.

I should point out that i am not necessarily looking for a workout routine. I am quite comfortable with mine as it is but I stumbled upon this and found it interesting and I was curious to see what the community thought and maybe I would give it a try.

Ok.. Well the plan you already have sounds pretty good to me :)

It would be pretty easy to take what you like from the plan you posted and mix it in.. For example the cardio or the hand stands. However, I wouldn't use that plan as a workout alone because you've already got some pretty solid ideas
  • Just do it without thinking too much

I think I would definitely add the horse stance for my leg days and the handstands for shoulder days. The horse stance was something I didn't know existed and after doing it for a minute I already understand why people have been doing it for centuries lol.
