How many calories did I consume for dinner?

It's always so difficult to predict the calories in the food that my mom cooks.Basically this is what I had for dinner today :

Cauliflower & "bok choy" stir fry with 1 teaspoon of olive oil & some Indian spices like cumin, mustard seeds.I ate like 2 palm size
Steamed whole threadfin fish. It's around 150g since it's quite a small fish.I ate both sides of the meat (except the head&belly)
Some tofu & tomato to go along with the steamed fish. And there's no sauce for the fish.
A typical Malaysian dish, stinky beans with prawns and calamari in a spicy shrimp-based paste.I ate like 3-4 medium sized prawns,2 tentacles and some stinky beans, discarding as much sauce as I could.
Chicken herbal soup, boiled with one whole small chicken,Chinese yam, dates, ginseng and some herbs. The soup was concentrated and sweet due to the dates.I ate a few pieces of the yam and all the herbs and less than half cup of the broth.

I ate the whole fish since it was steamed just for me.Approximately how many calories for this dinner?

    really?

You do realize that we would figure it out the same way you would...log the ingrediants.

I don't exactly know the ingredients and how much she used since I wasn't in the kitchen. But I know that my mom does light cooking,so there's minimum oil.

You seem to most of the ingredients so it should be fairly easy to get a close guess. Next time you could ask your mom to write down everything she's doing or cook with her and make your own list. I either do when I'm eating at a relative's/friend's place or I'll just bring my own food (which people still find amusing and so far every single person has been supportive).

So you log in all the stuff you just typed out come out with your best estimate and move on.

How do you think we would all guess without plugging it into the database and guessing... so get busy logging you could have been done in the time it took to write this thread

Agree with the above that building the recipe into MFP with all the ingredients and serving size is the answer,...........the only way to KNOW.

Ditto everyone else on logging it to find out. And please, for the love of little kittens, stop discarding sauces and only eating little bits of food. You need to eat more. 300-800 calories per day isn't enough for my two-year-old, let alone an adult.

This. And I looked at your diary... It appears you're either not logging a LOT of food or you've got a bigger problem. Please seek help if you are indeed eating that little.

OP...I know that you are very you and all of this is confusing. Why don't you search the internet and see if you can find a site that will teach you how to calculate your calories. It might be somewhere on MFP..I don't know.

At your age and if that is a current picture of you in your profile...I would think that if you make some changes in your diet...cut back slightly on portions...make sure that the majority of your food is "healthy"...save room for treats when you go out with friends...start an exercise routine...do some strength training...you would be fine without having to count your calories.

There is also a recipe calculator on MFP...enter your ingredients...quantity...servings...and it will tell you how many calories. To make it accurate however...you must weigh your ingredients. Your mom would have to be willing to do this...or...maybe it is a good time to start learning to cook for yourself.

    Good luck!
