Returning after a year long injury

11 months ago, while training for my first sprint triathlon (1 week away from my first one), I had an accident on my bicycle. I ended up with an open compound fracture of my right leg. After surgery and months of being completely down, I started sports med PT in Nov. 2013. Throughout a series of events, we found that my tibia and tallus had begun to deteriorate. I was then sent to a specialist and placed on a transplant list. 3 months later, the call came and the bones were available. I had the transplant and had to wear an external fixator (a device similar to a 'halo' however, on my lower leg) for 7 weeks. I'm now 3 weeks post frame removal and working through PT again. As of today, I'm down to using only 1 crutch and I'm able to bear weight on my right foot and I finally feel 'normal' again.

When the accident happened, my metabolism was GREAT and I was running, swimming & biking.. usually at least 2 of them daily. I felt GREAT!! My weight was 185, which for me, is phenomenal! After 13 years at 300 lbs then maintaining a 120 lb loss for the better part of 10 years.. I had begun to flirt with the 200's again. Then I was getting more active and and losing weight and doing great. Then the accident. 11 months later, I am 248 lbs. 60 lbs!!! I have done it twice before, i can do it again! I'm 41 and have no time to waste at all! I loved being healthy and feeling good. I loved being able to run, swim and bike!

All that to say, here I am!! I'm back!! I'd love to have TONS of friends on here for support. If anyone is working through an injury or whatever... I'm open for friends! Feel free to add me!

You can do it!! The very fact that you have such a positive attitude despite a difficult injury and recovery shows that you've got the "stuff" to make a full recovery. Good luck to you!!
