Swimming as a workout - suggestions?

Hi everyone!

I am thinking about swimming tonight as my little workout. I have a 5k on Saturday and my hamstrings have been SO sore, so I don't want to do any running. I was thinking maybe a 30 minute swim? Problem is, I'm not sure how to structure it.

I swam growing up, from about age 9 to maybe 15-16 on my neighborhood summer team, but haven't really swam since then (I'm 22 now). Does anyone have any ideas for a good workout - I'm not looking for something super intense, no racing! Just a good way to structure a workout :-)

Thanks in advance!!

I would say swim laps for ten minutes, do ten minutes of leg kicks, jumping jacks, etc, then ten min of laps. The water will be great resistance for the leg kicks, jacks, etc

I used to put my legs over side of pool (above ground) and do sit ups, if you can with stand going under water try that, you can lock your legs in a ladder if one is available!

You can do push ups off the side too. I used to do a lap, 10 pushups and keep repeating. Great for the triceps.
