Boderline and struggling immensely

Good morning,

My name is Margaret. I admire everyones dedication to weight loss journey.

I originally lost 60 lbs on the paleo diet 2 years ago, how ever when I started to eat normally again, I gained 30 lbs of it back. Ever since I have not been able to loss 1 lb. I lose 3 lbs one week and gain 6 lbs the next week. I don't want to go back to the paleo lifestyle, I feel it is too restrictive for me and I end up over eating.

Recently, I was diagnosed with borderline diabetes. Can you please share your ups and downs, what worked for you, what carbs you ate, what grams of carbs did you stay with, workouts, how you over came your weak moments. I feel like I am always munching because I am bored at work (desk job).

You need to log your food every day and make sure to use a scale to measure it. I have type 2 diabetes. I have good days and bad days. I always make sure I'm lower than my goal for carbs and sugar. I could probably change my macros but I haven't. Just make sure to stay within your macros and you will lose. I've been testing out different carbs to see how they effect my blood sugar. I haven't found anything that I need to remove from my eating. Everything in moderation. Check out my food diary.

I try and test my blood sugar 6 times a day. Once in the morning when you wake up - your fasting blood sugar. You can test before meals and 2 hours after. I sometimes test after I go to the gym, depending on my workout. The longer I'm at the gym working out, the lower my blood sugar goes. I've had to take a couple glucose tabs a few times while at the gym.

The first few weeks on MFP I didn't work out at all but I still lost weight. Then I started walking around my neighborhood. I sometimes still do that. I have a gym membership and my daughter and I go at least 5 days a week. We started the Stronglift 5x5 program a few weeks ago. So we do lifting 3 days a week and cardio (elliptical /walking/zumba) 2-3 times a week.

I have a desk job too. I do bored munching too. They only thing that helps me is to plan my meals and only bring those for the day. I can't leave snacks in my desk otherwise I will eat them all in one day. I eat breakfast then a morning snack, lunch and then an afternoon snack, then dinner and sometimes I will eat an evening snack depending on where I am with my calories. I try and stay around 180 carbs a day. I'm also taking oral medication - Metformin 500mg three times a day for my blood sugar.

Hi Margaret! I don't do low-low-carb-keto but do count my cals and carbs which I've found is real working for me. I try to stay around 1300 cals but don't worry too much if I go over, I also stick to 60-70g carbs a day max. The main benefit I've found, which I imagine in blood sugar/carb related, is I've been able to come off my migraine meds and haven't had any major issues since - fantastic!!

I love cake, bread and potatoes! Whilst I can't have a huge plate of them, I can still have them within my daily target, so it feel sustainable as I'm not telling myself I can't have something (which would just make me want it more!).

Maybe try a starting point of 100g net carbs a day and see how you go?
