Losing weight (again) but it feels harder this time!

I could use some inspiration!
In January I was at 147 and in February/March I lost my job and I gained 21 pounds...I know right? I'm 5'4 (and a half) and I was at my heaviest ever. Nothing fit. I was severely depressed. I wouldn't take photos unless they were head shots (hence my profile pic)
I used to be able to change a few eating habits and work out for 30 min 3 times a week and literally melt away pounds. Here I am at 29 and although I can run more than ever in my life it seems that I CANNOT lose weight. I've been at 158 for what seems like forever and i think if I get on the scale and see anything different I may cry (what I am I saying...I WILL cry) I currently run 2-3 miles 3-4 days a week at a minimum and I eat at the most 1200 calories a day. I think I'm just at a plateau. What doesn't help is that I have a medium very muscular build which I think definitely affects my scale as I'm seeing inches lost (I lost 7 inches without changing one pound in weight). My fiance is constantly complimenting my sculpting of my arms/shoulders AND I can 'comfortably' cross my legs without starting to lose circulation (ugh that sounds awful but it is what it is) and I can look in the mirror without feeling repulsed but I still haven't dropped much weight and still can't fit in to my cute skinny jeans which tends to be discouraging. I started in April and I've lost 10 pounds

I can't give up because that won't do any good. I don't want to do any crash diets because I will just gain it back. My body loves food and loves to hang on to weight but I refuse!

I'm competitive so I would love some energized buddies here that can help create some healthy competition in this journey and we can share our wins and opportunities (all about give and take in my book).

Where are you?!?!

Your " About Me" is basically me in a nut shell!!! 6 years ago, my senior year in college, I lost about 25 pounds and got back to my high school weight… then moved out to New York, got a job, got a husband who is Italian and who love to cook and drink wine! Now I am 20+ pounds heavier and have sworn to myself many many times that I would never go back to how much I weighed in college… I think that is motivation enough for me to lose it, but I am finding that it is so much harder this time around!! Im not sure how I would do in a competition but I would love to share some wins and opportunities! ( I also have a pair of skinny jeans that I could fit into before I got married… refuse to throw them away because they will be the final victory!!!)

The reason people often have a tougher time losing weight the second time around is because they lose some lean mass during the first round. Often people go on very low calorie diets which makes the whole thing worse. Your goal this time should be to do it slowly and preserve the lean mass you currently have.

Sometimes we put so much pressure on ourselves to be perfect and it muddies our thinking to the point where we can't succeed in our goals. Ultimately putting on pounds is not something to be ashamed of. While it's nice thought to stay the same exact weight every single day for the rest of our lives, it's unrealistic. When your hair looks bad, you fix it. When your teeth need cleaning, you brush them. When you want to be thinner you eat less, move more. Don't cry. Everyone finds themselves at a crossroads. Use weight as an indicator of health, not as a personal failure of any kind.

You have muscle mass which is really, really good. Be grateful for that, it's awesome. Muscle burns more calories than fat + a whole assortment of other benefits + it's beautiful.

Health is beautiful. Eat less, move more. Anything less than 50lbs is just maintenance anyway ;).

i am the same height, older, and less active... you aren't eating enough.

get a food scale and weigh everything. log accurately. read and reread the sexypants thread.
