Thanksgiving at work?!?

it drives me crazy that companies are catering or encouraging Thanksgiving meals over the next week when they KNOW we are eating big with families. seriously!?! they complain about insurance cost and then encourage over eating! i pray that if you work for a company that does this than you will be the example. you CAN do this and lead others to a healthy lifestyle.
enough about them.... you CAN do it.
you are the ONLY one that chooses what crosses your lips and hangs on your hips. YOU make those choices. not your employer. be the example. you know what those foods taste like. you have had them before. and you will have better with your family on Thanksgiving Day. you don't need them again.
here's my suggestion to all of you: white turkey meat, veggies (not casserole veggies), sweet taders (you won't need gravy) and only one HALF of a dessert.
doing the best for your body will empower you and lead others. again, be the example of what to do, not what they are doing. this will be more calories than you typically eat for lunch. good for you and not eating two days worth of calories in just 1 meal.
for those of you with children, you would want them to make good choices when they are at a party...now is the time for you to make good choices. walk your talk. for your health.
cheering you on in healthy choices. today and every day!

yes, self control! ours is today and I love that our work does that, and then they do another feast in 2 weeks for the holidays I love it! I love to eat! but I can enjoy a smaller plate with healthier portions and know that I'm not undoing all my hard work!0

Use salad plates and keep some water on hand to sip!0

salad plates! what an awesome idea! never thought of that.. i'll have to try that on Thanksgiving. i'm a sucker for stuffing... i'm going to try to only have a small piece and then work out instead of sleep in front of the football games on tv in the afternoon... good luck to everyone!0

It's hilarious that you just posted this, considering less than hour ago I ate Thanksgiving lunch at the school that I teach at. Since I don't cook up dinners like this very often on my own, I splurged: corn, stuffing, mashed potatos with gravey, and a small slice of pumpkin pie. I skipped the roll and milk in an attempt to reduce calories in some way. I felt full, but not uncomfortable. I just wish the calories were less.... you know, schools don't always use the best recipes to reduce calories!:-P It's a nice thing to do for kids though, especially if they come from disadvantaged homes.

We're signed up for a Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving, too (my kids, the DH and I)..... so, cooking the talk, walking the talk, and having fun!0

When I was manager of a retail store and we had to work on Thangksgiving (or Christmas Eve & Christmas) I (not the company!) would provide trays of snacks. Things like cheese and meats with crackers, vegies, fruit, and cookies. If people felt moved to bring other stuff in, that was cool too. Quite often our regular customers would bring in plates of food because they felt sorry for us! "It really sucks they make you work today....but I am glad you are open!" Every year on New Years Eve someone would have pizza delivered! We never did figure out who, and the pizza joint next door wouldn't tell us.0
