A tiny success.

I'm a binge eater. Have been since I was about 10 years old, to the point where my parents locked anything sweet away in a cupboard. Part of my problem is that I have OCD, so I get totally fixated on my binge 'idea' and I no longer want to eat it, I NEED to. Some binge-eaters can wait 5 minutes and then let the feeling pass. I can have the same fixation for days on end. I'll eat everything in sight to try and get over my idea, and then I end up just caving and doing it anyhow.

So that's why I'm happy about today. For the first time EVER, I've been able to overcome a binge fixation. I wanted a blueberry fritter. No, scratch that. I was honestly about to go to the store and get 6 of them, eat them all in one sitting and then cry for hours afterwards because I know the scale is going to go up again tomorrow.

Instead, I had a litre of water to calm down my stomach. Then I fixed myself a blueberry green tea. Genius! The smell alone was enough to get me over it, and zero calories. Good thing I have chocolate chai tea on hand too!

I know this is just a tiny success, and I'm actually up in weight from when I started on MFP, but it's something. I know how to conquer my own weakness now, and I know I can do it :D

Big success! This means that you have the will power and the control. Start with the thought first "I will be okay if I don't have the _____" and then the actions will change with it.

    YEAH FOR YOU!!!!
  • Good for you. I'd say this was more than a tiny success. :flowerforyou: Yes, you can do it!!

  • Well done!

I know how hard it is not to have something once you get that craving. The thought sits in my head and regardless of how full i am it stays there and niggles til i give in. Well not any more lol.

Brilliant idea with the smell as well. I may have to incorporate that one x

You CAN do it! I'm a recovering binger/food addict and can attest that it CAN be done.

You don't have to, but reading the book 'women food and god' changed my life.

Congrats on your success. I know what a huge accomplishment that is.

Ha, ha, I have a cupboard FULL of herbal teas . . . cinnamon spice, chocolate mint, blueberry, raspberry, earl grey decaf with vanilla, you name it I probably have it in the cupboard.
I use these all the time depending on what Im craving and know this does work.

You are amazing! Keep up the good work and just take one moment at a time.

I realized that I binge when Im alone and there is no one to be accountable to. I've talked to my family about this and have had some challenges lately as my last kid just moved out a few months ago so I need to overcome this fixation as I am alone a lot more now. My husband now drags me along for any errands or things he does evenings and weekends so I won't be home alone with the kitchen just calling out my name . . . . . or I log onto MFP and chat with a few people just to keep me occupied. I have learned to just stay away from the kitchen completely when Im alone.

Don't beat yourself up if you have a weak moment, we all have them sometimes. Just jump right back on that wagon and keep going, remembering that you are only human and don't let it bother you. I have learned much more about myself in this journey from my bad choices.
