I've seen on a few posts that people are drinking these shakeology drinks. Anyone have any comments about them? Good? Not? What's the nutrional value on them? Do you replace one meal a day??? I'm interested to hear what they are about

EDIT: deleted my cranky comment since you told me my tuna appetizers looked good in another thread, I can't be mean to you now.

I would recommend you read the other threads on shakeology, they'll let you know.

IMO its not worth the price, other protein powders are comparable. That the gist I got in the other threads as well.
  • it wasn't threads about people's opinions that I saw, but thanks :)
one thread someone was giving away samples and another one was the person's ticker.

I didn't like it. I got a sample and I couldn't drink it. I think it might be able to be prepared differently to where the vitaminy taste was covered more but not with my life. I can't use a blender unless I had the shake at night and that's not when I'd want it. I am not trying to pay for the shake just to have to add a bunch of crap to cover the taste, that would then add up money and calories.

Just my personal opinion...it seems a lot of people like it though.

This is one of those items that can be a "hot topic" on this site.

You have 2 schools of people here, some prefer the natural approach and frown upon anything "processed" or the "fad diet" items. Others swear by them.

I live by the mantra that if my grandparents did not comsume it then I should not be either. I eat only natural and "clean" food and have had the best success of my life doing that.

You cannot sustain yourself for life with any of these "diet suppliments" so I am of the opionion to stay away from them. I am not here just to lose weight, I want to be healthy so will not put anything in my body that is not natural or made by my hands. I am training myself to eat and live healthy for life.

Apparently really nutritious, everything you need for good health in a shake but priced at $4 a shake are they really going to be any better for you than a decent vitamin pill or indeed a healthy diet at a fraction of the cost?
  • I tried the chocolate with a banana and soy milk, it was yummy and super thick.
I also tried the green one (not even sure what the flavor is), but it's disgusting and the smell lingered for what seemed like FOREVER, but apparently not really forever since the smell is gone

    But to pricey for me...

I personally love it, use it every day and think it's well worth the price. But that's just me :-)

I tried it three different flavors and they all got my dad and I so sick. FAIL! And they gave me such a hard time returing it.

The ingredients are all natural. This is no fad-diet.

Has anyone tried replacing 3 meals a day with shakeology rather than just one? You’d end up with 900% of your daily vitamin c intake but otherwise, where’s the harm?

I have someone sending me a sample, but I was told its $4 a shake, and I dont believe in meal replacement shakes, I dont see why you just wouldnt eat good, thats why I would see it as a fad because you arent just eating normal food

other than eating in a manner you couldnt eat forever, and you wouldnt get enough calories to function.. both two big no nos to my weight loss.
  • I can't knock them because I haven't had one. I do know that regular chocolate milk is great for you post-workout to replace what you need. I do think the $4 price tag is way out of my reach.....I would make one your own w/ protein powder...which you can get anywhere these days. I wouldn't have them all day in place of meals, you need real food-salads, fruits, etc...:drinker:

I like the chocolate. If you buy it, be prepared to spend around $140 for a 30 day supply.

I love it. It's worth the money. It's not a fad diet, it's not a protein powder, it's actually a truly healthy thing you can do for your body. Why not just eat healthy? I do but the veggies & fruits of today have less than 1/2 the nutrients they did 20 yrs ago. Our soil is over-farmed & the nutrients just aren't there anymore. For me, this changed my health. It cleared up my skin, bleeding gums went away, digestion improved, slept better, no more major cravings for sweets... For me it's worth it cuz I'm worth it. In the past all I considered myself worth was $1.50 for a Slim Fast. :)

I didn't think of doing that math, yea it would be less than 500 calories a day, Ah well!

Regarding price, from my research its $119 for 30 servings (bulk) and 24 individual so thats 54 = $2.22 a serving which seems reasonable.

EDIT TO ADD NEW RESEARCH ON PRICE: From my research it said $119 30 servings in bulk 24 servings in packets” no where does it say OR but from what you are all are saying (it being a 30-day supply) they are missing a much needed OR. I only noticed that when playing with an order-now function.

    LAME!!

Yes, and that is also if you just consume it as is...I can't. I can't do the smell or the taste - and that was with milk that would cost something. I'd have to add something else; sweetener, honey, pudding - all of which adds more to the cost, calories, and sugar.

First of all, it is NOT and never has been a protein powder. I don't know why so many people say it is. :explode: It has a good bit of protein in it, but that's not what it is meant for.

Second, I use it because of the looooooooooooooong list of vitamins and minerals that most of us do not ever get in our diets without supplements like a multivitamin. If you go to www.shakeology.com you will see their ingredient list and their dietary fact sheet. It simply does not compare to 99.99% of the meal replacement shakes out there.

Personally, the upfront cost does not bother me. It bothers some people because it is around $100 a pop...but when you think that there's a month's worth of stuff in there...and that means only around $4.00 per meal...and you spend more than that at Subway for a foot long sub that has tons of sodium, lots more fat, and horrid amounts of carbs...as a meal, it's no different than going out to eat. Actually it's a little cheaper. Yeah, it's more expensive than other meal replacements, but it is also more nutritious. I would rather spend the extra few bucks and be good to my body than get something cheaper and still have to get my nutrition from other foods and supps which end up costing more in the long run. That could be just me, but since there are lots others who drink it, I know it's not just me.

Also, the taste is what you make it. Mix it with water and it tastes like cow dung, pure and simple. Mix the chocolate with some almond milk and you have something that tastes just as good as milk and Nestle Quik. Mix the greenberry with OJ and add some fresh fruit and you have a delicious fruit smoothie. I prefer my chocolate with almond milk and strawberries, or almond milk and some natural peanut butter. Tastes wonderful to me! And of course people complain about adding stuff adds to the cost...but then again, do you eat everything else plain? Or do you add other ingredients to it making the meal more costly?

I don't have it everyday though. I don't like having anything everyday. I like variety. But if I have this as breakfast 1-2 times a week, and then the bag lasts me through 3-4 months...the price seems to get smaller that way. I spend waaaaaay more on the egg whites for my omelets. I detest the taste of egg beaters, so I buy whole eggs and separate them. That gets really costly too.

Personally I like the stuff. I think there's a ton of people on here that refuse to try it, not because of the product itself, but because of the tons and tons of pushy coaches that always try to sell it to you all the time. That's gets really annoying!!! There's certain other products I refuse to buy because of their pushy salespeople! And that's kinda sad, too, cause I mean, at least try it before you say no. Just like the kid looking at the bowl of spinach. Just eat some before you decide you don't like it. Cause the nutrition in it can't be disputed. It is simply there...just like that spinach the kid won't eat.

    IMHO.

HAHAHA!!! I've gotten those IM's myself and have had to explain to each and every one of those money grubbers that I am also a coach and get it from my own website with my own discount...

I just wish more coaches would stop trying to make sales off everyone and start trying to help people. That's why I became a coach, and I normally don't tell anyone that I am one. I just like trying to help.

I would just like to add that I was seriously considering doing this...just don't have the $120 laying around to throw at it at a time. But, when I came across the extra, I would have done it. I got a free sample, and I'm glad I did because I didn't like it. I can see how people could like it, but it just wasn't for me. I am very picky with food and will not eat/drink something if I don't like it - this I didn't like.

As for the adding things to my plain food - I often eat things plain - I'm picky like that. If I eat a sandwich - its a meat and cheese, nothing else because I don't like any condiments. The meal I was looking to replace with the shakeology was breakfast - I usually have a packet of oatmeal that costs me less than $.20. So, the $4+ is a far cry from that.

I also take a multivitamin and iron pill so I think I'm ok on my nutrients.

Again - these are my own personal opinions. I am not knocking others who want to try it and love it - I just didn't. People ask for opinins - I give them mine. Here is the rest of my history too.
  • Why not just take a mulit-vitamin? That way you still have to train yourself to eat healthy meals?

It works for a lot of people that way, but some people need more help than others with healthy eating. I feel it's good to have options for meal replacements for the others that haven't grasped healthy eating yet. I remember when I first started trying to eat healthy back around 2005, I was like "just eat a little less pizza and dump veggies on it and it should be fine." I would never say that everyone should try and use Shakeology, or any other meal replacements, but sometimes it actually does help people learn the right foods to use in their diet so they don't even need a multi. Which is why I use it, is so I don't have to choke on a pill (literally...I have a hard time with pills).
