    I dont see how brining a turkey adds calories, and its needed to smoke one without drying it out

    Brine is insanely high in salt, and like everything, salt has calories (not to mention using this method is insane on ingested sodium levels.

    What salt are you using that has calories? I don't think salt itself has calories, it's what the salt does to the food. I personally would wonder if the brine holds in the fat, making the turkey moister and higher calories.

    But you arent drinking the brine, the amount that soaks into it would be minimal, I would rather have some sodium than a dry turkey
