I keep buying Fitbits because the Up didn't synch wirelessly until the latest one (Up24) and because I don't like a plastic bracelet. But I'll switch brands next time I need one because I just feel like it. Fitbits aren't perfect, either.

I have both a Fitbit Flex and a Jawbone UP24. Fitbit can sync (via a dongle) with a computer, while UP requires a smartphone or tablet. And Fitbit makes non-band trackers that clip to your clothes.

They both sync with MFP. And they both show you your TDEE—way more accurately than any online calculator.

Edited to add that they have both stopped working and been replaced by the manufacturer. Fitbit customer service is better.

so, now that the up24 syncs would you still go with the fitbit? Why? Trying to decide which to get, is either good for bike riding ? I've read the up24 is good to swim with, thanks :)

UP & Flex are both water resistant, but Jawbone says not to swim with UP. (I shower with both of them.) Neither can track non-step exercise like swimming or biking, so you have to log it either in the activity tracker app or in MFP. (I find the trackers' burns to be way more accurate than MFP's one-size-fits-all guesstimates.)

Just got my fitbit flex - I like it, but it takes some getting used to. It's easy to sync with my phone and MFP. Wildly inaccurate in calories, but fun to track steps and sleep. Much easier and more reliable IMHO than the Jawbone UP.

When you set up your tracker it has to guesstimate your burn since midnight, so your first day's burn is always a mess. My adjustments got better every day, as if the system was "learning" my routine.

I eat back all my adjustments and I lost weight, so for me the burn is extremely accurate.

You may also check out a fairly new device: Garmin's Vivofit. It has similar features to the fitbit and UP but also has the ability to connect to a heart rate monitor to record your heartrate.
