Low Blood Pressure

I have always had low blood pressure, but since I've lost weight it's gone down even lower. My most recent reading at the dentist was 80/55. I called my doctor and his only advice was to eat more salt and drink more water. That doesn't sound right. I've googled it and I see I can take medicine to increase it, but I really want to avoid taking meds if I can. I have some symptoms that are annoying...light headedness is one of them.
Does anyone have any advice on how to safely raise it?

This link from the American Heart Association may give you some ideas of things to discuss with your doctor or perhaps a cardiologist: http://www.heart.org/HEARTORG/Conditions/HighBloodPressure/AboutHighBloodPressure/Low-Blood-Pressure_UCM_301785_Article.jsp0

I think you should find out why you have hypotension there can be a lot of health conditions that cause this and unless your doctor has tested you for these things, saying just eat more salt is pretty poor advice. Dehydration can cause low blood pressure so if your drinking a lot and it's still low i would go talk to the doctor and have him run tests.0
