Am I on the right track?

I'm pretty new at this, and just need a bit of motivation and advice.
Three years ago, I was diagnosed with leukemia, and had a bone marrow transplant just over two years ago. Since then, my weight has been fluctuation between 185 and 165. Trying to lose the weight and keep it off has been a nightmare. What I've been doing lately is eating around 1250 calories, and trying to burn around 500 per day. I'm 5'8 and my current weight is 185. I'm completely fed up with hating my body, and really want to reach my goal weight, but I'm not too sure what I'm doing.
So basically, am I on the right track with the calories, or do I need some adjusting? I don't have anyone to really to reach out to, so any bits of advice or motivation would be greatly appreciated! (:

If you are burning 500 calories a day thru exercise I would say to increase your intake calories to at least 1500 to keep your metabolism working and not starving.0

If you're eating 1250 total and burning 500 via exercise you are only netting about 750. That's too low.0
