Anyone here have experience with an Elevation Training Mask?

I've already done a good bit of research on it, but I'd like to directly ask users some things that were not satisfied therein.

I will say I'm leaning toward buying one, though.

I don't use one because I haven't found any research that supports a ETM doing anything of value.
I suppose if you're after the Bane look when you're in the gym it'll help.

If you are basically untrained than they will help you pic up a little bit of performance by making your lungs work harder. They will not however increase your red blood cell count which is the whole awesomeness that is altitude training. Not even the really expensive (few grand) sleep tents will help you there. If money wasn't an concern you would have to go for a full pressured sleep chamber of actively live at those altitudes for weeks to get that good good.

Wearing that mask may get you nothing more than scaring small children and becoming the center of a ongoing joke among your friends.

I get why you are interested though. When they first came out and saw them advertised I couldn't stop researching them bc it would be an amazing concept if it actually worked....but turns out that whole science thing didn't really agree with what they are advertising.

would it be any different then training with a snorkel? not that that would be any less conspicuous, probably a lot cheaper tho

I "train" at 5700 feet above sea level, so I don't need a mask. When I was in high school and we would go to other states for basketball tournaments, you could definitely tell a difference in lung function/capacity. Coloradans can also drink you under the table - and for that we're proud. LOL.

What do you hope to gain with a mask? Unless you're planning on running a marathon at a higher altitude, I don't think you really need it.

I live @ 6600 feet so I have never seen the need for one.

I live and train near 5000 feet, so my experience is merely getting a chuckle when someone comes into the gym wearing one.

That's great, but I'm asking for someone who has used one in case you're having trouble reading.

I mentioned I've already done research; you're telling me what I already know. The point isn't to break that down more. I want to address things that have not been addressed.

Good thing I work out alone then.

I'm sorry, but you don't. Let me restate: I've already done the research. It didn't take much to be disillusioned. I'm not expecting it to satisfy that which it advertises.

Now if there's anyone who's actually used one, give a shout.

So......if you've done the research then why are you still leaning towards buying one? Just curious as to if you found something I did not.

I do copious amounts of cardio. I'm always training for endurance. The problem is that since I do it so often, I don't know when I should be making it more difficult for myself and by how much. The mask wouldn't be for regular use; it would be supplemental whenever I'm in doubt. I'd use it as a test through which to augment my loads.

I'm looking for a current or former user to sift through some details involving that. Nothing more.

The a$$hat that mentioned the Marines running around looking like Bane and Aholes may want to accompany them on their next deployment to Afghanistan.
I've used them in preparation for a deployment, usually while either road marching or running. Really didn't see the point in using it at the gym.
