Hello,
The OH is taking me away to celebrate my birthday (which was last week), it's a total surprise, no idea where I'm going (so can't plan ahead). He's being very secretive about it too, so it could be Paris, Rome, Edinburgh, Bognor...who knows?
Anyway as I can't plan ahead - can you please provide me on tips / trick to keeping it healthy when you can't plan ahead?

If he knows that you're tracking your calories then he most likely would made some accommodation regarding what you'll be eating.
That's what I do when me and my wife are off out somewhere.
If not, over-estimate calorie intake and keep your portions limited.0 -
What does OH stand for?
Food is food - avoid things you'd avoid at home such as battered, fried, creamed things that are obviously high in calories and fat. Look for grilled or broiled meats, lightly prepared veggies, salads with light salad dressing...
But allow yourself an indulgent treat or two - don't spend the entire weekend obsessing about it -enjoy yourself most of all, as long as you plan to pick up where you left off when you get back.
Don't think "Oh I had that big chocolate mousse dessert and all that wine, my diet is ruined" ***and then give up.**** Just pick up where you left off on Monday. Don't go overboard, and don't let it derail you.
Most importantly, ENJOY yourself0 -
If the hotel has a gym, I will workout while the OH sleeps in. Failing that, do a lot of walking around sightseeing. When confronted with breakfast buffets in the hotel, remember to keep asking yourself, "Am I really enjoying this?" Don't just mindlessly eat mediocre stuff just because it is available and plentiful.0
