Hi everyone,

I just thought I'd say hello!

I found the myfitnesspal calorie counter iPhone app and its great! I like the fact that I can find nearly everything I eat in the food lists and it makes it much easier to create a good log.

Anyway, I'm a 27yr old male...around 6'2 but I've allowed my weight to get right up to 155kgs! I knew I always needed to lose it but I've never really had the inclination to try...till one day last week. I was getting on bus and I walked past this young child sitting with her mother, as I went past the young girl asked out loud "why is that man so fat?".....obviously I just wished the ground would swallow me right then, but I carried on to sit at the back of the bus...the mother told the girl to be quiet and not be rude but the girl then said "but he's the fattyest man I've ever seen mummy!" OMG, at this point I just cringed into the seat and thought everyone was looking at me!

Anyway, I got off the bus a stop early as I coulnt take it and walked the rest of the way to where I was going.

I guess really this was a good thing as its ben a catalyst to change my life for the better!

thanks for reading
bob

Welcome to MFP. This site is great. It really helped me..... obsessive over eater....to cut down. I'm down few kilos and that's only in about 3 weeks. It's amazing how I don't eat as much anymore. It will help you greatly.

And as for the kid...you gotta love kids. Obviously it wasn't great at the time, but it did get you to do something about your weight and that's great.

Just few days ago, I had my 4 year old son with me and all of the sudden he said "When I was a baby, I had alcohol in my cup"..........There was a women next to us and the look I got...ouch.:embarassed:

I just managed to say calmly that he can come up with some strange stuff sometimes and wished I was invisible. I mean, he knows what alcohol is because if we have a glass of wine or a beer, we explained to them, that they can't drink that and that it's alcohol and only for adults so I know where he heard it, but still........gotta love kids.

    Congratulations!

This little girl pushed you to your first workout! :-D

They always say, that's the first things to do: take stairs, park your car in a place far from the entry of the shops and get off the bus a station early.

First step being done, you only need to get on like this. And exercise can be addictive! Once you start to feel good about it, you want to continue, and do more.

    Good luck!

Welcome.. I too am a fairly new member and this is the best thing for me. Thank you to the little girl, as tough as it was, it was what sent you to us. now you are off to a good start. Continue getting off the bus that one stop earlier. You managed it once you can do it again. I have learnt so much from recording everything that I eat and am now making better choices and am even starting to learn to like exercise. But most of all you will like seeing the numbers on the scale going down. Little by Little will add up to much.
  • thanks to you all.

I know I should thank the kid...at the time, thanking her wasnt the main thing I could think of but yes it true......without her I'd still be where I was. whereas now I'm on the road to a thinner, healthier life!

Hey...I know the feeling. It's so hurtful when you hear things like this...even if it is a kid and they don't know any better. I can't count the number of times I've had women/children (never men surprisingly) ask me if I was pregnant, or when I was due. It's so awkward and embarassing. A good friend of mine was asked one day if she was pregnant, to which she replied "no, I'm just fat"...lol...great sense of humour she has... I'll never forget walking one day to the corner store with my sister and a group of teenagers drove by in a car and yelled out the window at me "YOU'RE FAT!!!"...it is horrible what people will say. But it has made me determined to try and turn my life around and get myself healthy...and I'm happy to hear you are doing the same. Keep your chin up...and just take it one day at a time...soon enough you will be seeing amazing results!!
  • I'm sorry that you were hurt like that, but on the positive side, it has given you the motivation to move forward towards a healthier happier life.

Good on you for making a change.

Next time you see that little girl her mother will be checking you out

yep...out of the mouths of babes and all that...they certainly don't hold back. but all in all, a happy twist of fate for you, my friend! you've found a wonderful home for encouragement, support and *kitten*-kicking, if called for - which i could use a healthy dose of right now! welcome!
