My favorite song to sing when sad is Long Long Time by Linda Ronstadt, because you can really wail out your sorrows with that one!

That is a good sad song, but I like the version by J Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers better than the Pearl Jam version.

How on earth did I forget "Tootie" by Hootie & the Blowfish? I even acknowledged the person who was sobbing for Hootie in the shower.

I'm totally making myself a new Spotify playlist with a bunch of these songs in it, and calling it Sad Panda.

Agreed. Love PJ, but the original was better.

Not that PJ doesn't have its share of original songs that fit this list! for some reason, my mind is blank even though there are a million I know I could recommend.

Mother & Child Reunion - Paul Simon

I worked in an Animal Hospital for many years. There was a surgery tech I worked with who was usually an irreverent crack up. Really, she said some unreal crazy funny *kitten* at the worst times. She had some amazing comic timing that would make you crack a smile at the saddest times.

One day, there was a middle aged dog, about 8 I think, who had an exploratory that day & his insides were just ugly =( The owners opted not to euthanize, however, the dog was in such bad shape, he never recovered.

After doing everything she could to make him comfortable, we did what we could while the family rushed to see him before he expired. She brushed his face sweetly as she passed him & said ' your mommy is calling you back home, isn't she?'

It was a sad & random thing, but after hearing Mother & Child Reunion for years & years, it occurred to me she was right.

Sure enough, I googled the song & it was about the day Paul Simon had to euthanize his family dog. :brokenheart:

Still can't listen to it without blubbering
Um, couldn't read your post without blubbering.

As a lot of people have already said Mad World. That song makes me want to kill myself. Seriously. Worst song ever made. Lol

4 am - Our Lady Peace
    Breathe Me - Sia
The Freshman - The Verve Pipe
    Suicidal Dream - Silver chair
Anything Radiohead but it's because I hate them cause they are so depressing (especially Pyramid Song... just shoot me)
Tomorrow's Harvest album - Boards of Canada (particularly Reach for the Dead... especially if you watch the video)
Bullet and a Target - Citizen Cope
Novocaine for the Soul - Eels
    It's a motherfu... - Eels
    Lost Cause - Beck
Nobody's Fault But My Own - Beck
    Cotton - The Mountain Goats

I'll add more when I remember.

But when you are ready to cheer up, listen to I Like Birds by Eels. Happiest song ever made. Best video: Weapon of Choice by Fat Boy Slim
