Hello I am on a very, very tight budget. My mother suggested making my own bread and I realized it would be MUCH cheaper.. what else is cheaper homemade? It need not be 100% good for you but I'm just trying to not starve to death...any tips are WELCOME! I am willing to spend a lot of time cooking if necessary, and I have a oven and crockpot.

You could make your own pasta?0

pasta for sure, cheese is cheaper too, as is sausage. It's also cheaper to buy whole animals and get them butchered out. I love lamb, at the local market it starts at $15 a pound, the lamb in my freezer cost me $2.50 a pound.
Think of what you can make and make it.0 -
Exactly more or less anything you can buy at the shops you can make yourself.0

You might find this website useful - it's written by a lady who fed herself and her son on £10 a week because she fell on hard times.
I'd recommend the carrot and kidney bean burgers and the curry with apricots - both are delicious.
She also has many bread recipes which are easy to make.

Generally dried beans and lentils will get you a lot of nutrients for your money.
Hope this helps.0
