I read somewhere that your macros help with body comp. what does this mean? If I eat more protein will I look leaner eventually

If you eat more protein you will have more protein available to recover and build muscle.

My understanding is that more protein -- up to a point -- combined with lifting weights will enable you to retain more muscle as you lose weight.0

As mentioned above, eating a diet higher in protein and practicing some sort of resistance training will help you retain your lean body mass while you're in a calorie deficit.
