Hi all, As we "round" the corner of our weight loss journey, we are approaching the holidays, the first of which is just around the corner. I just thought it might be good to start thinking of strategies for not derailing all of the wonderful progress we've all made. My Thanksgiving dinner is going to be greatly modified from usual - Turkey, grilled veggies, maybe a salad, and something cranberryish, and an obligatory sliver of pumpkin pie (I promised my better half, but we are modifying that). I know my stomach has shrunk a bit, which is a good thing with the portion control thing. My biggest concern is actually Christmas, where I will be out of the country and away from the comfort of controlling what I eat, and around relatives who get their feelings hurt if you don't indulge. They are just going to have to get over it, cuz I will not be detterred from reaching my health goals. Anyway, anyone care to share ideas/thoughts?

dr oz had some great lower fat and calories dishes for thanksgiving. Pumpkin pie bites that have a trace of fat and mac n cheese with 23g less of fat.

Learned about "Pumpkin Fluff" on another thread. I made a Pumpkin Fluff Pie and will bring it for Thanksgiving as a healthier option....

    15oz can pure pumpkin
    8oz cool whip free
1pkg sugar free vanilla jello/pie filling (just the mix, not prepared)
1tsp or 2 of Pumpkin Pie Spice or All Spice

blend the pumpkin, spice and pudding mix together and then fold in the cool whip until blended. Pour into a reduced fat
ready made graham crust (or make your own crust) and let chill. Voila! A healthier pumpkin pie! It's Delish!

Some use the fluff as a dip and just serve with graham crackers.

Well, I'm still planning on making our traditional Turkey day dinner. My husband and I modified it a few years ago to really reflect the things we enjoy and eliminated those things we ate just because we always ate them. But, I plan on going for a big interval walk/run that morning once the bird is in the oven, will only eat 1 helping of everything (and those portions will be more modest than past years) and will really only eat when I am hungry (no having a turkey sandwich because it's there).

I am going to make the traditional thanksgiving dinner, turkey, dressing., mashed potatoes, gravy, I am making a healthier version of our candied sweet potatoes, also making fresh green beans instead of green bean casserole, and I am making a spinach, mandarin orange salad , and dinner rolls, with apple pie and pumpkin roll. I will not have dressing , gravy, a dinner roll or pumpkin pie, I will allow myself a small slice of pumpkin roll. And I am going to suggest we go on a walk after dinner

I have been looking at recipes for two days in an effert to slim down our traditonal favorites.. other than that my strategy is to eat small portions and continue with my snacks and excercise so I am not ovelry hungry at meal time and burn off the calories I do eat.
