Averages, Spreadsheets, etc.

Hey guys,

I'm back! I've now had 11 days of healthier eating and regular exercise. I just wondered if anyone has the same approach as me when it comes to counting calories and averages, and if they had any advice as to whether I could be doing things differently? I also just thought I would share my method, in case it helped anyone out!

Every day I log my calorie intake, as well as approx. calories burned through exercise, in a spreadsheet. The spreadsheet details every meal, and totals up everything using simple formulae. I've also worked out a (very) conservative calorie maintenance allowance for someone of my age, gender, weight and height. I'm 5ft 10inches, Male, 23, and currently 221lbs. My allowance I calculate a deficit from is 2400 calories per day. How does that sound, is it actually conservative? I then take the Net Cals (which is of course Cals in - Cals out) and deduct it from the Allowance to get a rough estimate of a deficit for that day.

An example day is as follows:

Cals In: 2015
Cals Out: 581
Net Cals: 1434
Cals Deficit: 966

I have targets for AVERAGES. So the above is all added up for every day, and averaged out. My targets are as follows :) :

Cals In: 2000
Cals Out: 500
Net Cals: 1500
Cals Deficit: 900

What does everyone think of those average targets? Perhaps the cals in is too high?

If I am hitting my averages over an extended period of time, I am happy. This way, I can incorporate treats like multiple Beers on a certain weekend, etc. So far I've lost 8lbs in 11 days, which is obviously a great deal and actually too fast for my liking, but I'm going on the assumption that I've lost a lot of water weight...

Any thoughts my friends?

J
