How accurate are calorie counters? Like Fitbit, etc.

Trying to decide if it's worth getting one of these devices or not. How accurate are these devices at tracking the amount of calories you burn? I am not a walker or a runner. My excercises of choice are dance, yoga, and weight lifting. Although I'm currently doing 30 DS, too. After reading tons of stuff online, I'm still not really sure how accurate these things are if you're not a walker or a runner. If anyone knows about the accuracy of these things with non-aerobic excercise, I would sure love it if you shared your knowledge.

They're not going to track yoga, weight lifting or 30DS. Dance, maybe. Their strength is in estimating how much you burn the other 23 hours of the day, or all 24 if you walk or run for exercise.

I would be pretty much worthless for your exercise. FitBit is basically a fancy pedometer. I have one and I like it but it is best to track your walking and daily activity not any of the exercises you have listed. Best of luck to you.

That was a fast reply! Thanks. That is what I suspected after everything I read. So, how do you get a realistic number for calories burned with excercise? I have noticed that MFP seems to be extremely generous with their burn estimates.
