Newbie

Hi everyone! While I'm not new to My Fitness Pal, I am new to the forum. I have used the MFP mobile app on and off for several years, but have never really lost a significant amount of weight and kept it off. I am nearing 50 and with a strong history of heart disease, diabetes and breast cancer in my family, I have decided to try once again to get this excess weight off and get healthier. Looking forward to getting started again. Good luck to everyone!

Welcome to the group. I am exactly where you are. Looking at everything that runs in my family, it is time to take full control of what goes into my mouth and what I do to stay fit.

I will send you a friend request and we can motivate each other

    Welcome to the forums!
I find the trick is to stick to whatever healthy changes you make. Then you will definitely keep it off. Don't make changes you won't be able to sustain!
What did it for me was:
stop drinking fruit juice and replace it with actual fruit,
stop drinking sodas and replace it with light sodas and water,
    eat more vegetables
eat more poultry, fish and eggs
avoid potatoes, pasta, rice and bread as much as possible (i would get a portion of potatoes with my meal every eve, now i don't anymore) of course i'll treat myself once in a while ;)
and the hardest one... admit that I eat too much, and reduce my portions (no, i'm not supposed to eat 2 plates of that dish!)

With these dietary changes and becoming more active, i lost 30 lbs and kept it off :)

I am not sure you were asking for advice, but there you got it anyway.
Good luck on your weight loss journey! :)

Hi! My Dad passed away last summer from complications related to his diabetes. That has become a major motivation for me to lose weight. I am down 80 pounds from my starting weight. I would be happy to encourage you in your fitness journey. Add me if you would like.
