I burned a LOT today and 850 calories of it were tonight, so now I have 1660 calories left to eat!!! What the heck am I supposed to do with that? LOL

I guess I'll have a double helping of jambalaya but there is no way I'm going to get close to that from dinner.

...just eat til you're not hungry. don't worry about the number. you don't have to force feed yourself because you decided to get a good work out in. Good for you :)

eat back 50% of your exercise calories...850 calories for 1 hour is zumba is way too high.

Don't stress too much over exercise cals as long as your fueling your workouts appropriately.

It's not your typical zumba class, it's run by a dance instructor so it's VERY intense, and I do wear a heart rate monitor with a chest strap, so I'm pretty sure it's accurate.

I'd say take it for what it's worth. Yes, if you're hungry, you should eat, but there's no need to stuff yourself silly or go crazy trying to reach the goal. Eat until you are satisfied and accept that some days you will be far under your calories and some days you will be far over, these things will even out.

Thanks! I did eat a nice big bowl of jambalaya and I had 2 pudding snacks for dessert. I'm nice and full and satisfied, so I think I'll call it a night. :)

You're right, it's a good reminder to look at the whole picture instead of one little piece of it. Thank you!!

So don't eat back all your exercise calories. If you really aren't hungry, forcing yourself to eat isn't a good idea. I personally LOVE having extra calories at the end of the day. Makes me feel like I have put in a good amount of effort into this endeavor.

No it's not, not if she worked really hard at it. It's actually a really good burn and pretty close to accurate if she's honest in how hard she worked.

:) I know quite a few people who go all out and burn high during Zumba. This particular class is the only one I go to because it is crazy, much more like a hip hop class. And I'm a dancer so I tend to go a bit crazy. :) But that's also why I wear the heart rate monitor. It's very accurate and I don't want to overestimate. This way I don't have to worry about it!

I've done zumba and know what it's like...and I was very active...but it doesn't burn 850 calories an hour...

Even with HRM...and chest strap...it's not accurate those are for steady state cardio and zumba is not steady state cardio.

but you can put in whatever you want for calorie burns doesn't affect my maitenance...:flowerforyou:

If you want to get used to eating healthy and losing weight you shouldn't worry if you hit your calorie goal.Worry about going over. Did you ever see a skinny person go " Oh, I better eat another Big Mac to hit my calorie goal."

You don't have to eat back your exercise calories or eat your entire goal. Just don't eat less than 1200 for the day and if you're not hungry then call it a day.

LOL, ok. Like I said, it's not a typical zumba class, it's very different, which is why I don't go to others. Since you have never attended this particular class, I'm going to go ahead and go with my own account of it. I appreciate your input, however. :) Cheers! :drinker:

I also weigh a lot more than you, I think, so I'm going to burn more. But agree to disagree.

I hear you girl! Don't worry about it. Just eat what you can and try to balance yourself better tomorrow. I only burned 400 calories today and I'm still low. I actually skipped a couple of classes I usually go to Monday nites because of doing two unscheduled classes this morning on a day that I didn't have a chance to eat any snacks or extra stuff to compensate or I would have been in a higher deficite. ;-) Not going was a first for me. I'm sort of obsessive about working out.

I just made a near 4000 calorie meal, not hard at all. 1660 calories isn't much.

Oh I can definitely DO it. I'm sure I've eaten 4000 calories in one sitting, no problem. Obviously I don't want to just eat a ton just to eat though.

I didn't want to eat back all of them, I think that would be ridiculous and a bad habit to get into!

I typically eat over 1000 calories in the evening- I work out between 5-7 and I have dance between 7-10- so yeah- its quit normal.

If you really dislike doing it- eat more earlier- for breakfast- if not - treat it the same way you treat a binge day- a mistake and move on.

Way to go on that calorie burn! I have 190 lbs to lose and I burn A LOOOOT of calories when I work out hard. 850 is very possible for a hardcore zumba class. Usually an hour on the elliptical I'll burn close to that and I'm not very wiped out. An hour of zumba kills me!

Also, with the eating back of the cals, it's probably best to just eat like normal. You can have the double servings if you want, but don't eat til you get that stuffed feeling. It's ok if, at the end of the day, you have a lot of cals leftover because of a large burn from cardio. Refuel yourself but don't force yourself. :)

QFT. Zumba burns are reported as being so high. I never get those burns, even in the most vigorous of classes. The most I get to (and I mean with jumps and all) is 400.

OP eat until you are normally full. Why overeat? Makes no sense. That's how the bad habit starts.

At 7:30 pm I'm just getting started...:drinker: I don't think you need to eat it ALL back, though, so don't stress if you can't stuff it all in before bed. I have a ton of extra calories tonight, too, but I've got ice cream for that.

Great burn! I also took a kick *kitten* Zumba class tonight and I'm 100% certain you can burn that many calories in an hour. Every person is different, every instructor is different, and it depends on your intensity level & weight. Great job!
  • You can always save some extra calories for tomorrow. I do some give and take between days going for a certain weekly average (or 2 day average..)
