Working out too much?

Hi everyone! So, I'm 18 years old and I just started posting on this site. I used to weigh around 198 pounds (I know..pretty bad). Well, I've kinda woken up and realized that I was close to weighing 200 pounds and I didn't want that. I've lost around 15 pounds and I'm now at 181 pounds. However, I realized that I have another 16 pounds to go before I reach my goal, and then another 10 pounds after that...so 26 pounds left (oh God)... I'm starting uni in september and I was wondering if it's possible for me to walk into school as a 161-156 pound woman. I've gone through high school as that fat chick who was constantly called ugly, fat, disgusting..y'all know the rest. So I don't want to walk into a different environment as the same person, and I guess thats why I'm so hard on myself to get rid of my extra weight. I know I'll get yelled at for this but, I workout 5 times a week usually doing zumba for 21 minutes and walking (slow paced) for 40 minutes, and I take breaks in between. On Mondays, I take it slow, usually only doing 20 minutes of zumba. I have this obsession where I have to watch what I eat and I constantly think about working out to burn those calories. Anyone have any tips so I can be a bit healthier? And does anyone know if I can actually walk into uni with my goal weight? Once again, I know I'm not exactly losing weight appropriately, but at least I'm taking a step in trying to improve, right?

You want to arrive at school in about six weeks at a weight that is about 20-25 pounds less than your current weight?

Read it .. learn it ... apply it and you'll see why that goal is unrealistic.0 -
I don't think you are exercising too much. The best way to lose fat though is through resistance training(weights). They really fire up the metabolism and turn your muscles into furnaces. 18lbs before school? which is like late august im guessing. It is possible, i try to get people to lose 1-2lbs a week. I would probably gaurentee about 10lbs but 18 would be a stretch
do you have access to a gym?0 -
for one you cant lose the weight that fast. how long has it taken you to lose the fifteen lbs?? congrats on that by the way. it will take just as long to lose the next fifteen and more. You aren't working out too much. YOu could stand to up that a bit. Up the intensity and try lifting weights too. I will say that if you work on being the most healthy you that you can possibly be while losing the weight at a slow and healthy rate, you will look amazing no matter what that dam number on the scale says. I looked pretty dam good even twenty lbs ago (180's) and you will too. Focus on strength training and toning as well as the cardio, drink tons of water to help you with the skin elasticity and cleansing of toxins, etc Eat at a deficit but eat nutritiously as possible. Don't you be worrying about the possible skeleton girls at your new school. You do not need to compare yourself to others........ besides men like curvy girls not bony ones. I personally love my curves and don't want to get much smaller than I am now. The only people you need to be better than and impress is the person you were yesterday and that person in the mirror. No one else. Make yourself lots of small goals to reach. I am sure with dedication and hard work you can lose this weight the right way but it will take time. Be patient.0

wrong, JazzKazz150.
losing much more than 12 pounds in the next 6 weeks means you'll be burning lots of muscle, which in turn means your body won't be burning as many calories, which means you'll probably end up gaining the weight back and maybe more. and you'll be weaker. your goal is probably literally impossible for you, btw - and if you achieved it, you'd be the opposite of healthy. also losing that fast won't give you time to build the muscle that would give you the shape you probably want.
perhaps learning to live a healthy lifestyle - TRULY healthy, not just losing weight to try and change your appearance - would be a real healthy change. college isn't high school, so don't expect insults and taunts, and besides - i used to have people tell me i was too skinny in high school. there is no miracle weight or shape that will keep you from some people from disliking the way you look. and btw, men used to hit on me at 200 pounds - it's partly about confidence.. your confidence may be a big part of your problem, not your weight.0 -
Whoever called you ugly is stupid. You're a beauty. Don't push it based on a number. You've done well. Keep up the good work. try to hit 170 by September. You may even lose more. But it seems like you're doing it right.
And 5 times a week exercise is damn good!0 -
That does not seem like excessive exercise.
I walk 5-8 miles almost daily, as well as doing 5x 60 minute boxing classes(2 back to back on Tues, 2 back to back Thur - I love boxing) a week and a long bike ride and some elliptical and weights.
However, I would also say that it is not wise to lose weight too rapidly, as you do not wish to lose lean mass which will help keep your metabolism running nicely.
Slow and steady = more sustainable.0 -

Yes. Aim at 2 lb a week loss max. or you will be losing muscle mass, which you would be better off building. It's also easier to build muscle at a surplus than a deficit. But going back to school 15 +12 pounds lighter will be a pretty awesome change in itself. You'll get the other 10 to 12 pounds off in good time.0
