Ever picked up an X pound weight and just thought...

Wow, that used to be strapped around my waist all day!

Seriously, about 10 years ago I was around 295lbs, today i'm 207. I used to bench press 90lbs dumbells and now I can't even fathom having one of those dumbells strapped to my body all day!

It's seriously mind boggling that the human body can even adapt to it. Fascinating, and terrifying at the same time!

I just did the same thing just the other day at the store with the metal dumbbells. It was crazy even at just shy of thirty lbs I can feel the difference.

Yeah..it's amazing. Did your calves get large? Most of the thickest calves I've ever seen are on heavier people from walking around with that 95 (or more pound) dumbell 24/7.

Hehe yup, and due to running and biking they are still pretty large, I get more comments on them than anything else...

That's a good leftover. I have stubborn calves.

I just was saying this yesterday. I recently moved up to a 20lb kettle bell, which my 8 yr old thinks is "soooo heavy". When I told him I've lost more weight than two of those he was shocked. To be honest, so was I. No wonder I was so tired all the time. That's a lot to be carrying around all day.

Once I get down to my target weight maybe i'll buy a dumbbell of the total difference and make it in to a trophy :P

All the time. I picked up a 50lb bag of potatos the other day because I am close to the 50lb loss point and I couldn't believe it. I dunno how I managed for some many years. No wounder I was always tired and out of breath.

I was working out with my son about a year ago and I handed him a 45 lb plate saying "This is how much extra weight I was carrying around not too long ago". I sure wouldn't want to have to carry that thing around everyday now!

I do GoRuck events, which require you carry a backpack weighing a certain amount of weight. I regularly train with a 28 pound backpack. It's hard to phathom that I used to carry around 2.1 of those on my body. It's just mind blowing.

Yeah a few months ago I was at an airport waiting on a shuttle and having a casual conversation with a very nice older woman who was also waiting. When the shuttle arrived I asked her if I could put her bag on the shuttle for her - when I picked it up it was much heavier than I had anticipated (I have a bad back so I have to be mindful of these things). I started to joke with her about having rocks in her bag and she said the airline weighed it and it was exactly 42lbs - since I had just lost 42lbs that very week I found it really eye opening.

I often think about this - especially when I pick up my bulldog (who is about 55lbs). Absolutely boggles my mind that I walked around with almost 4 bulldogs strapped to me.

Awesome work by everyone who's replied, we should all be very proud to not carry around that "potatoe sack(s)" any more! I love that visual. A dumbbell gives a sense of the weight, but the potatoe sacks really gives a sense of the shear volume!

About a month ago after I had hit a 25 lb loss my boyfriend called me into the office (which has adapted into the weight room as well lol). He handed me the 25 lb dumbbell and said "This is how much you've lost" and just holding it is heavy. It's amazing to see it in that perspective.

I was doing bench step ups with 15 lb in each hand, it was the end of my workout and after two sets i put them down and did the last without them. And i was thinking if i still weighed more i wouldnt have that option.
