What to do when you can't weigh

There are some times when logging accurately is pretty difficult. This past Sunday i didn't even log my dinner because it was a big family thing and i have no idea what any of the ingredients were for any of the foods i ate. I know i went over my calories, but oh well, one day shouldn't kill me.

Also, last night my wife cooked a wonderful veggie stir fry with some shrimp, and we ate it over rice. Unfortunately it was all prepared when i got home and i couldn't weigh anything very accurately. I made the assumption that the vegetables she used (zuchini, squash, carrots, broccoli) weren't very high in calories and so i found the "generic" shrimp stir fry listing in the database and logged a 1/2 cup more than i actually ate just to be safe.

My solution to innacurate logging is to never eat back my exercise calories, and round up on my serving sizes, but my question is how do you guys do it? What do you do when you simply can't weigh or know for sure about calories?

estimating. I weigh my food when I can and try to pay attention to how much things are so that when I can't weigh them, I can think, "well, yesterday I ate 150 g chicken and it looked like it was abou this big, so today this piece of pork is probably about 125g or so".

Even when you weigh your food, the calorie content is an estimation, so just try to get close.

As for mixtures like stir fry, if I can't find something close, I break it down - .25 cup of boiled broccoli, .125 cup squash, 1 tbsp oil, etc.
