MFP calories burned vs Treadmill #

Im hoping someone can help explain this bc I want my numbers to be accurate. Im new here and noticed today when I put in that I walked for say 15mins at 3.5 it says I burned X amount of calories. Well when I went to the gym on break and did the 15mins walking at 3.5, the treadmill read a lot fewer calories burned. Which number should I go by? Im worried I haven't really burned as much as I thought based on what MFP is telling me.

Here's a formula that will sanity check the numbers......

.30 x weight in lbs x distance in miles

MFP is notoriously generous with caloric burns.......

Is there any chance the treadmill was calculating based on a default weight instead of your actual weight?

Fitness equipment tends to overestimate calorie burn, not underestimate, which is why I ask.

Thanks for posting this formula. I too was thinking MFP was being too generous. I did a 2.5 mile hike on a trail that I live by and MFP said I burned a little over 300 calories.

Thanks for the replies and Im not sure about the weight setting on the treadmill I will deff check that tomorrow. And I will use the formula as well. I kept thinking I don't think I burned THAT much lol
