It's just the 4 of us and a few years ago, my husband and I went through the typical Thanksgiving menu and purged that stuff that either we didn't love but had always made or thought it wasn't special enough. So, our menu is:
-roast turkey
-oyster, chestnut stuffing (grandmother's recipe)
-sweet potato casserole
-home-made cranberry relish
-peas for him (I make them twice a year for him-I hate them!)
-steamed broccoli
-dinner rolls and butter
-pecan pie
I entered the stuffing, sweet potatoes and pecan pie into the recipe calculator last night and the stuffing and sweet potatoes aren't too bad but OMG the pecan pie!!! Oh, well, it's only 1 day out of the year, I"ll just work out REALLY hard that day!0 -
the recipe for the asparagus is here - http://everythingisbetterwithcheese.blogspot.com/2010/09/roasted-parmesan-asparagus.html
enjoy!0 -

Me too! Me too! The only issue is the house I'm going to has pretty chunky people living there so I'll have to be very, very careful with my portions.0 -
Here's our menu:
Roast turkey (brined in Apple Cider and seasonings)
Sage Stuffing
Mashed Potatoes and gravy (gravy needs to be canned--we're grilling the turkey)
Sweet Potatoes
Cranberry/Pomegranate sauce
Maple Spaghetti Squash
Roast Aparagus
Roast Carrots
Green Bean Casserole (we have someone for whom the holiday is incomplete without this)
Sweet potato pie
lowfat low sugar chocolate cream pie
pumpkin cream pie
(Please notice the abundance of veggies present! I plan to fill the plate with them!)0 -

Yeah, pecan pie is really, really bad - but ohh so good! I'm going to eat light on Monday - Wednesday; make sure I hit the treadmill all of those days and do at least 45 minutes of cardio then just watch my portions that day. And make sure to hop back on the treadmill on Friday!
Anyway - you'll have to eat 3500 calories over you normal daily intake to gain a pound overnight so one day definitely won't hurt.0 -
To those who noted the high calorie counts of their favorites -- YES! It IS only one day out of the year. We did not gain XXX pounds by eating badly ONE DAY!! We got here by eating badly MOST days!0

Totally agree with this statement! This is a lifestlye change and not enjoying the holidays is NOT how I will be living my life from now on. I plan to eat like my thin friends-eat what I like in manageable portions and not worry about it!0 -

We are having only what is local and in season. I am so excited about this lifestyle change and to be ONLY eating locally grown, raised and farmed goodness.
Organic, Free Range Turkey
Organic Sweet Potatoes
Organic Turnips
Organic Collard Greens
Sweet Potato Pie made with organic sweet potatoes, free range eggs, raw milk, pure vanilla and a nut crust.
I will also make my hubby some home made yeast rolls.0 -
My favorite Turkey day meal was a few years ago - we had BBQ ribs, white rice and a gorgeous spinach salad. Dessert was lilikoi chiffon pie.
Somehow, we found our way back to traditional:
Turkey
Ham
Homemade stuffing
Mashed taters and gravy
Green bean casserole
Cranberry sauce
Rolls
Pumpkin pie with cool whip
Chocolate (made with yogurt) Pie
For snacks earlier in the day, cucumber slices, baby carrots, celery sticks with spicy 3 pepper hummus and/or ranch dip.0 -
