Being a Personal Trainer, and wellness distributor, I have to be on top of my game on a daily basis, but even those within the industry has setbacks, or m ay not be as motivated or bubbly for whatever reason (We are human after all).
My reason, recovering alcoholic. A struggle that I deal with daily. This October, it will be 4 years of sobriety. Without fitness, I know I would be going to what I call, "The Sea of Hops and Barley!" Addiction is addiction, be it food, booze, pills, etc. It takes a lot to keep me focused, especially during the summer. Warm, sunny, everyone's out, got the grill going, pop a cold one, me, I have my water or protein smoothie, or mineral drink. I don't mind at all, keeps me healthy, and I can deal with it a times.. Other times, forget it.
So for me to keep focused is thinking about other people who have overcome their addictions, or a certain motivation video, or certain songs from some of my favorite bands(Van Halen, Van Morrison, Godsmack, AC/DC, Allman Brothers Band, Living Colour. Yes, I am a rocker at heart) and wanting to achieve my self employment goals. I cannot achieve that if I am at the bottom of a Glen Fiddich bottle.
So what drives you? What motivates you? http://youtu.be/4yf2tOYKTgk (Quotes below from the video, and this is the video that motivates me)
"An old African proverb that says, If there is no enemy within, the enemy outside can do us no harm!"
"When life knocks you down, try to land on your back because if you can look up, you can get up!"

The things I find the most joy in doing tend to be physical activity, such as climbing, skiing, hiking. I get a lot more out of all of these things when I maintain a level of fitness. Like you I am also sober, being active really help me not only be physical healthy but mentally grounded. No matter how stressful life is or my day was, a long run or hike, really just resets and recharges me. Most of my vacations or weekend are spent beating the crap out of myself, and this makes me very happy.
I have always been comfortable in the gym, it wasn't until the last 8 years or so that I got into more endurance and outdoor activities. I have to be honest, I am not a natural fitness athlete at all, I have to work hard, push myself, and struggle on a consistence basis. But there are always little wins and improvements, and with that come great joy. I am also pretty scared of heights which is why I started rock climbing, I am not very good at it, my fear is a constant struggle that holds me back, but again there are victories there and great rewards. I love pushing myself out of my comfort zone, to me that is living.0 -
I am results-oriented. Losing weight fast is necessary for me in order to adhere to a diet. I am all about instant gratification. If I try something that doesn't yield quick results, I say "This isn't working," and abandon it.0
