Thank you OP. That needed to be said and you said it well. There are a whole slew of paranoids on these forums who lie in wait for someone to post a thread advocating quick weight loss, so that they can falsely accuse them of being self-destructive and having an eating disorder.

OP was talking about 1200-1500 calories, not 700 and a clearly disordered eating habit.

So the OP can arbitrarily draw the line and then judge others that are even more drastic than he?

    Well then.

There is nothing arbitrary about 1200 calories, that is the general consensus for a minimum amount of calories anyone should take in in a day over any extended period of time without excessively depressing one's bmr. 700 IS low, but in some cases, especially with proper medical supervision for those extremely obese, a VLCD can also be appropriate...but this isn't about those with medical needs requiring that low of a calorie intake, this is directed at the generally "healthy" individuals looking to lose weight, and in that case, 1200 isn't unreasonably low, especially for short term losses, as long as one is getting adequate protein in their diet (i should have mentioned previously that a diet that is low in calories should endure appropriate levels of macro-nutrients)

I really applaud your understanding of the limitations of 1200 calories. Truly. Using words like "short term" and "adequate protein" are so important for many people when eating at that level.
